Tonight’s Fatal Attraction episode will feature the murder of Conyers resident Stewart Elvin Tabb Jr., a man who was shot dead after leaving his lover’s home in Georgia. The case made very few headlines when it first occurred.
Court records show that in October of 2009, police were dispatched to the Brandon Apartments located at 1726 Brandon Glen Way for a fatal shooting. When police officers arrived at the crime scene, they found an African-American male with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The body was lying in the grass just outside of the apartment. Investigators deduced that the man had been ambushed upon leaving the apartment. The victim, who was pronounced dead at a hospital, was identified as Stewart Tabb.
As investigators delved deeper into the case, they discovered that Tabb, who was married, was involved in a sexual extramarital relationship with a woman named Sunday Proctor. The early morning murder occurred right after Stewart Tabb and Sunday Proctor had engaged in a night of sex at her apartment. What Proctor and Tabb didn’t know was that Sunday’s boyfriend, 30-year-old Jokari Jontue Carter (Jakari Carter), was watching the apartment the whole time they were inside. In fact, Jokari Jontue Carter had been consistently spying on his girlfriend, Sunday Proctor, and when he found out that she was in her apartment with another man, Carter flew into a jealous rage and shot Stewart Tabb as he was leaving the apartment.
Phone records helped put Carter in the vicinity of where the crime took place at the very same time the murder occurred. Law enforcement authorities charged Jokari Jontue Carter with malice murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm, according to the Newton Citizen . In a plea bargain, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison, with the possibility of parole after serving 15 years, according to the Rockdale Citizen .
The victim’s wife stated that she was glad that she got justice in the case, but it did little to bring back her husband. Today, Jakari Jontue Carter, sometimes spelled Jokari Carter, is still incarcerated in a Georgia state correctional facility.
“My family had gone through a lot. We were ready to close that chapter in our lives.”
