Steve Harvey Surprises One Of His Own Staff With A Surprise Reunion For Veterans Day

Taped in advance for Veterans Day, there was nothing usual about the November 11 edition of The Steve Harvey Show and if you enjoy watching deserving people receive a little appreciation, you’ll want to tune it with a box of tissues on your lap.

To celebrate Veterans Day and to honor those who have served or who are currently serving in the armed forces, the audience was filled with members of the U.S. military. For all who attended, it was a special hour but for some, the day would become one that they would never forget. As is with tradition of similar shows, a few surprises were planned for specific people in the audience who were in need of some encouragement. These people had no idea that they would be singled out among the crowd of other worthy soldiers. But the surprises weren’t just relegated to the show’s guests. Harvey planned a surprise reunion for one of his own staff members as well.

Rubin Ervin is a funny guy. He should be as he is The Steve Harvey Show’s warm up comedian, a man whose job for the last seven years is to pump up the audience and get them excited. However, Veterans Day is a more serious day for him. His father is a retired master sergeant in the Air Force, his sister is a retired Army captain, and his brother, a staff sergeant, is currently serving overseas. To give Ervin a taste of what his family members have gone through with their training, Steve sent him to the Chicago Army ROTC Battalion boot camp to receive the full treatment. Then after watching the recap video and sharing about his training adventure, Steve revealed that he had a surprise for him. That’s when Rubin’s brother, who was supposed to be serving in Okinawa, Japan, walked on the stage.

Another surprise was in store for Navy veteran Ashley Wells. Living in Chicago, the 30-year-old vet was honorably discharged last year, but has been struggling financially ever since. Knowing that there are nearly 50,000 homeless veterans in our country, she doesn’t want to end up becoming another statistic. To her surprise, the single mom met Mike Kahoe, president of Group Management Services who offered her a job within the human resources department of his company. Of course the position comes with full benefits. Then, Steve gave Ashley a second surprise in the form of a $5,000 check. And if that weren’t enough, Bryan Cullers of Pangea Real Estate then presented Ashley with a fully-furnished apartment. The best part? She will not have to pay rent or utilities for a whole year. Finally, it was revealed that Byron Miranda, a TV news correspondent for NBC5 in Chicago, who is also a military veteran, would be personally giving Ashley a tour of her new apartment.
