Star Wars: The Force Awakens wouldn’t be a tentpole film without a heavy dose of rumors, speculation, and good ol’ fashioned trailer hype.
Last week, Badass Digest reported a rumored trailer description of what the 60-second teaser would likely entail.
It’s going to have The Force Theme played on woodwinds, softly, over flashing images of the main leads, each fading to black. There’s no dialogue, just reveals of the characters. And then the music swells up into a full orchestral piece – perhaps what John Williams recorded this weekend? – and we hear a female voice, likely Daisy Ridley’s, saying “Wake up.”
And then the title card appears – Star Wars: The Force Awakens – and we see the Millennium Falcon , firing blasters, coming right at the camera.
Badass Digest is careful to tag a disclaimer onto the description, saying there is still potential that these previously-reliable sources of theirs could still be incorrect.
But when will we find out if this description of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer is correct? If the rumors are worth anything, later on this week.
Previous reports had said that the trailer would be coupled with The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies , but that has since been debunked. Now Comic Book has reported on two Reddit posts that claim there’s potential “that a ninety second trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ will debut next weekend in a 100 theaters nationwide in front of every showtime for every single movie. Supposedly, Disney has also told the 100 theaters that they had to run a showing of ‘Big Hero 6’ as the earliest showtime for each day.”
This move would give Big Hero 6 a good nudge over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, as well as give the entire Disney-owned Star Wars property an early push for the holiday gift-giving season.
So what does this mean for the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer description above? Unfortunately, it likely means that at least one of the above rumors is incorrect (and possibly even both). The description claims the trailer is only 60 seconds long, while the rumor from Comic Book claims a meatier 90 seconds.
We will find out soon enough of the latest rumors have any merit, but since we are about a year out from the film’s release, it would make sense for a teaser release around this time.
Are you excited for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, or are you content to sit idly until the actual movie comes out next year?
