Fans have been anxiously awaiting any news on when Disney Parks are going to get more of a Star Wars presence, as has been promised. Well, a little bit more of a clue has been given out by Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, and he’s let the world know that Star Wars will be making their bigger park presence “fairly soon.”
Variety reported that Bob Iger was on an investors call and revealed a good bit about what is to come in the merger between Star Wars and the Disney Parks around the world.
“There’s a fair amount of design and development (taking place by the company’s Imagineers) to greatly increase ‘ Star Wars’ ‘ presence in multiple locations around the world… The plans are ambitious so it’s going to take some time for them to be built and opened.”
Ambitious plans sounds like a very good thing, and that could really mean a great range of ideas. Iger said last year that there would be an “increased Star Wars presence in Disney Parks” and that more news would be announced in 2015.
Now, that’s the question — when is more news coming?
“Fairly soon, I’m sure we’ll be ready to go public with some specifics. But it’s safe to say that you’ll see a lot more ‘ Star Wars ‘ at Disney and at Disney parks in the near future.”
“Fairly soon” could mean a number of things, but Disney and Star Wars fans know that there are a number of good opportunities coming up to announce new plans.
In mid-April, the Star Wars Celebration will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. That just so happens to be conveniently located right next door to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.
Disney always does it up big for “May the 4th,” and then the Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios begin in mid-May. They will run for five consecutive weekends, and bring out stars and history in full force.
Then again, there is the D23 Expo happening in California in August, and that is where Disney usually drops the big bombshell news. This isn’t overly or “fairly soon,” but it’s a possibility.
It seems like there is a very good chance that any news will be announced before the theatrical release of Star Wwars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens on December 18.
Disney will bring forth more Star Wars to their parks around the world and it’s obviously going to be big. “Ambitious” is just being coy, but Iger knows what is going on and he knows that disappointing this legion of fans would not be smart.
Something says that Disney will make sure to use the force wisely.
