Is Luke Skywalker returning to build a Jedi Academy in the upcoming Star Wars flick? According to Collider , that’s the rumor currently making the rounds online.
Although Star Wars: Episode VII doesn’t have a director in place as of this writing, Toy Story 3 scribe Michael Arndt is apparently hard at work on the script. Kathleen Kennedy and George Lucas have reportedly given the writer some input as to where the story should head next.
The Skywalker rumor was found in a Reuters article about the Mayan city of Tikal, a location which served as a rebel base in the films. Towards the end of the piece, the writer casually remarks about Luke’s return to the Star Wars universe .
The article reports:
“Yavin 4 and the rebel base return to the Star Wars plot in the forthcoming ‘Episode VII,’ announced in October by the Walt Disney Co, in which Skywalker comes back to the planet to build a Jedi Knight academy. However, fans said that Disney will likely film those scenes in a studio rather than return to Tikal.”
Keep in mind that nothing official about this rumored storyline has been confirmed by anyone associated with Disney and LucasFilm.
According to Screen Crush , Luke Skywalker’s involvement with a Jedi training facility was chronicled in a series of books by Kevin J. Anderson entitled The Jedi Academy Trilogy .
In the books, Skywalker returns to Yavin 4 to train around a dozen potential Jedis. Unfortunately for all involved, the spirit of a Sith Lord returns to lure some of the pupils to the Dark Side.
Although rumors continue to swirl around the upcoming motion picture, nothing outside of a writer has been confirmed as of this writing.
