‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Release Date Moved To Mid-December 2015?

Star Wars: Episode VII was to be released in 2015 and most assumed it would open in May, the traditional opening month for Star Wars movies. Now it seems that the date has been moved to mid-December 2015. Maybe.

Fans were utterly disappointed that there was no information or panel at D23 convention . Perhaps this is why. Disney doesn’t seem to be ready to announce anything just yet.

In the past, all Star Wars movies were released ahead of the summer season, in May. Mid-December 2015 could work well for the studio, right before the holiday season, is also a popular time for movie releases.

Badassdigest.com was the first to report the date change. According to the writer, many of his sources indicate that Star Wars: Episode VII has mid-December 2015 circled at Disney as well as Lucasfilm.

There is also the possibility that the film could be removed from the 2015 calendar altogether, which could mean a May release after all, in keeping with tradition.

The extra time would also potentially help director J.J. Abrams, since he is facing a tighter than normal schedule, compared to other Star Wars productions.

However, David Faraci of Badass Digest thinks that pushing the movie to the following year is a last resort, since Disney’s Alan Horn all but promised the studio would stick to 2015.

In casting news, David Prowse, who played Darth Vader in the originals, said he would be open to returning as another character, since no one ever saw his face.

“I didn’t like Star Wars I, II and III at all. I think the common opinion now is they were really bad movies.” Prowse told The Hull Daily Mail, “There’s no comparison with the original movies.”

What do you think of the date change for Star Wars: Episode VII? Would it be a good idea to release the film in mid-December?
