Not much is clear about Star Wars: Episode VII thus far. We know the production has begun and not much more, however, some cast news was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter who says that Chewbacca actor Pater Mayhew will return for the seventh installment.
If this is in fact true — and it isn’t until the studio officially says so — it will lead us to believe that the three original main characters, Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) will all return as well (as has been widely rumored, still a rumor).
After all, why would Chewbacca be cast if his master, Han is not also featured? Wouldn’t make much sense.
The script is reportedly finished and set 30-years in the future, following the events of Star Wars: The Return Of The Jedi or Episode VI , which sees the defeat of the Death Star and Darth Vader, who returns to The Force thanks to his son, Luke.
The last scene of the film sees our three heroes and their mentors Yoda, Obi Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader, smiling with their proteges as one big happy family.
The fact that Star Wars: Episode VII picks up 30-years into the future would suggest that the new saga — part of a new trilogy and spin offs — will center on the off springs of siblings Luke and Leia and by extension Han. The next generation of warriors.
But with the Dark Star gone and Darth Vader dead, who could be the new enemy?
There are many question about the new plot and we are sure to find out very little in the near future, since we are talking about J.J. Abrams and his secretive ways.
On April 2, Disney Studios chief Alan Horn confirmed that filming started in the legendary Pinewood Studios in London and even though he said that most of the casting is complete, he didn’t feel the need to share any of the details.
The first character that was officially confirmed to return for Star Wars: Episode VII was R2 D2, Luke Skywalker’s android, who entertained audiences with its funny chirps. Will C3PO also come back? It is rumored.
As to the rest of the characters, not much is known yet. THR also reported that Adam Driver ( Lincoln, Inside Llewyn Davis ) will be playing an unnamed villain in Star Wars: Episode VII .
The fact that we don’t have much information from the studio or anybody else for that matter, will be a source of many more articles, until all is revealed sometime this year, we hope.
Star Wars: Episode VII is slatted to hit theaters December 18, 2015 in a departure from previous May premieres.
