Zachary Quinto has updated us on the next Star Trek film.
The first movie in the pseudo-reboot series of Star Trek films was quite a gamble, although there wasn’t much further the series could have sunk to. Beginning with Star Trek: Insurrection , the series just kept releasing mediocre sequels almost nobody cared about. It was clear something needed to be done to rejuvenate the Star Trek franchise. Enter J.J. Abrams, producer of the ever-popular TV series Lost , who made the series great again after George Lucas practically destroyed Star Wars . This nearly flipped the fan base for both series.
The new direction taken with Star Trek in what could have been a total reboot if it hadn’t been for cameos from original Spock Leonard Nimoy. J.J. Abrams did what seemed impossible, making a reboot not really a reboot, but a continuation of the original storyline.
The true identity of John Harrison confirmed for us in Star Trek Into Darkness that the series is taking similar steps to the original, so it’s still up to speculation whether or not the series will continue to mirror that of the one starring William Shatner as the uber-famous Captain Kirk.
Zachary Quinto, the actor chosen to play the new Spock for three movies now, has said of the next Star Trek film, “ Star Trek 3 should be filming, I suppose, next year. It’s going to be made a lot quicker than the last one. That’s the plan, although nothing is confirmed yet .”
We can only hope that the next Star Trek doesn’t end up a rush job as J.J. Abrams also takes the helm of Star Wars Episode VII . We saw what happened when Michael Bay did that with the Transformers sequel.
Lucien of BuzzHub added about the Star Trek Into Darkness star:
“I attended a public interview with Zachary Quinto at the Galway Film Festival in Ireland on Friday, and during it, he revealed that Paramount have told the Star Trek cast that they’re planning to shoot [ Star Trek 3 ] in 2014, and that J.J. [Abrams] still wants to direct! He also told the audience he does not want to be in [ Star Wars ] Episode VII , but he would like to cameo in The Big Bang Theory !”
That would certainly make Sheldon Cooper’s (Jim Parsons) day!
What do you think of Zachary Quinto’s update on the next Star Trek film?
