Sony PlayStation 4 Showcase At Paris Games Week Includes VR, New Game Trailers, And New Games

Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation 4 was busy this week at the Paris Games Week, as Sony unveiled new gameplay footage from games in the works, trailers announcing brand new games, and the potential of the Sony PlayStation VR headset was put on display.

The PlayStation VR headset, formerly known as Project Morpheus, had its keynote stage time on Tuesday. No release date was announced for the VR headset, but is still expected to be sometime in the first half of 2016. Sony did demonstrate the headset’s capabilities with current games the headset will tie-in to, and with newly-announced games.

New PlayStation 4 games announced this week include:

  • Detroit: Become Human , a sci-fi story of an android exploring her new-found sentience
  • Robinson: The Journey , a survival-focused first-person adventure set in a lush land where dinosaurs and talking eye-bots roam
  • MatterFall , a futuristic sci-fi game that looks to have players battling an alien “Smart Matter” threatening to cover the planet
  • Avicii Vector , a new style of music video game based on the Swedish DJ and music producer AVICII
  • Boundless , an open-world sandbox where players may be hunters, explorers, builders, and traders
  • Alienation , a solo or co-op multiplayer sci-fi top-down shooter, like XCOM done in RTS fashion
  • NieR: Automata , a third-person action RPG that continues the story from 2010’s NIER
  • Gran Turismo Sport , a VR headset compatible racer in the style of its namesake
  • Tekken 7 , the venerable fighting game, which will also support VR
  • Gravity Rush 2 , the sequel to the PS Vita original
  • Shadow of the Beast , a re-imagning of the 25-year old original first playable on the Amiga
  • Dreams , a multiplayer game that will allow players to invade and manipulate the in game dreams of other players
  • A new Ratchet & Clank game being developed in tandem with the upcoming CG-movie of the same name

Current PlayStation games that will be getting additional content include:

  • Until Dawn , which will be getting the Rush of Blood VR headset add-on
  • Street Fighter V – Dhalsim , who is the last veteran character to join the Street Fighter V franchise
  • Horizon Zero Dawn , which unveiled an eight-minute gameplay walkthrough video hosted by Mark Norris, Senior Producer at Guerrilla Games
  • Battleborn , a previously announced but not yet released first-person shooter which will be getting three unique multiplayer modes
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End , which will also be getting a new multiplayer mode

The list of PlayStation games with new details and / or trailers published this week include:

  • The new strong with the Force gameplay trailer for Star Wars Battlefront
  • No Man’s Sky , which got the excellent new “I’ve Seen things” trailer and a release date of June 2016
  • RIGS Mechanized Combat League , which had the new Dubai arena disclosed
  • The BIKES expansion to DRIVECLUB
  • WiLD , showing off a new gameplay trailer for this open world action-survival game
  • An introduction to The Giant map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
  • The Welcome to Sapienza trailer for the upcoming HITMAN reboot

In case that’s not enough good news for the Sony PlayStation, Sony announced on Thursday that its Q2 operating profit is “its best second-quarter operating profit in eight years” according to this Reuters report . PlayStation 4 console and software sales helped Sony boost up to a 10 percent operating profit rise, supported by an increase in profits from camera sensor sales.

The Sony PlayStation has its next big event, PlayStation Experience 2015, scheduled for December 5-6 at the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco, CA. Check the PlayStation Experience 2015 official Facebook page for details and tickets.
