Charlie Hunnam has been plenty busy following the end of his role as Jax Teller on Sons of Anarchy .
Along with other projects, Hunnam is currently working on his new part in Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur , in which he is set to play a young Arthur.
The film is a re-telling of the well-known Arthurian legend, and will focus on a young Arthur as he navigates the back alleys of Londonium. After discovering the power of Excalibur, Arthur is faced with leading a rebellion against the evil tyrant Vortigern (Jude Law).
Astrid Berges-Frisbey will be playing Guinevere, Arthur’s romantic interest in the movie, while Djimon Hounsou will appear as Bevidere. The film also stars Eric Bana as Arthur’s father, Uther Pendragon and Aiden Gillen as Goosefat Bill.
Elsewhere, while Hunnam has been working on several different projects after finishing his part in Sons of Anarchy , the actor might be in line for an Emmy for his role as Jax. Although the category for best Actor in a drama series will be competitive this year, Hunnam’s final season as the iconic biker puts him in a good position for a win.
Despite never being nominated for his role as Jax, Kurt Sutter acknowledged that Hunnam did a great job in the final season of SOA , especially considering Jax’s fate was well-known.
“Towards the back half of the season, he was able to bleed that into his performance, so that it wasn’t so much about rage and retribution,” Sutter explained to Variety . “He was really struggling with this almost spiritual journey, and yet it means doing things that are incredibly painful and devastating. (That) was some of his really potent stuff this season.”
Hunnam himself really struggled with saying goodbye to the Jax after playing the troubled SAMCRO leader for seven seasons.
“The kind of sweet side of it is that this has really dictated the whole rhythm of my life for the last seven years,” Hunnam said in an interview with Huffington Post . “So I’m kind of excited to get back to more of a gypsy way of life than a regimented routine that I’ve gotten used to. But you know, this has been one of the greatest experiences of my life.”
“I don’t think it dawned on me how much of an effect he had on me until I finished shooting. Then I realized how far I’ve gone in Jax’s direction. On the surface I started dressing like him and riding a bike everywhere, but also it was the way I would feel in situations.”
The 2015 Primetime Emmys nominations will be announced July 16 with the ceremony to follow September 20. We will be the first to let you know if Charlie Hunnam is among the nominees.
