Sam Mendes looks set to return for the 24th James Bond film, after directing 007’s previous effort, Skyfall , to almost universal acclaim.

Mendes confirmed in October 2012 that he would consider leading production on another Bond adventure, stating, “I think the choice is in the audiences’ hands.” Skyfall has since gone on to gross over $1.1billion, making it the most successful Bond movie ever at the international box office.

The Daily Mail is now reporting that Mendes is 75% sure that he will helm the follow-up, however the filmmaker wants to see a finished script before he confirms his return.

Skyfall’s screenwriter, John Logan, has been hired to write the new Bond film, and has reportedly already written a plot outline for the movie. Mendes’ return will be alongside Daniel Craig, who is signed up for at least two more Bond adventures, whilst Ben Whishaw’s Q, Ralph Fiennes’ M, and Naomie Harris’ Ms. Moneypenny are all certain to return too.

Mendes currently has a full plate of commitments to work through before returning to the glamorous life of James Bond . Mendes is in production on a musical version of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory , which is set to premiere on London’s West End in May, whilst he his also set to direct a new stage version of King Lear.

Skyfall was recently awarded at the British Film Academy Awards with the best British film accolade, whilst Thomas Newman also won best score. Skyfall has four nominations at this Sunday’s Oscar’s ceremony, which includes Adele for best song.
