The disagreement between Sinead O’Connor and Miley Cyrus just exploded into a feud that could potentially end with legal action, after the Sinead’s scathing post on her Facebook page.
It all stems from a public letter O’Connor penned in which she gave the former Disney star some advice on the music industry and criticized her overly sexual antics of late, including getting naked for videos and her staple hanging tongue. O’Connor wrote her letter after Cyrus suggested that she drew inspiration from the Irish singer’s “Nothing Compares To You” video.
Miley Cyrus didn’t take kindly to the good intentions and slammed the singer on Twitter, making allusions to another troubled star, Amanda Bynes, who is currently in a rehab center for emotional problems.
Sinead O’Connor has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was forced to cancel her tour last year. Miley Cyrus referred to some tweets she had seen in O’Connor’s account in her harsh Twitter response.
Here’s some of what Sinead O’Connor told Miley Cyrus, after the latter offered to meet face to face:
“Miley, I have no interest whatsoever in meeting you. You had plenty of time yesterday to abuse Amanda Bynes.. an entirely innocent party.. and myself.. who also did nothing to deserve your abuse..”
O’Connor then proceeds to tell Cyrus she needs to remove her tweets:
“You can take five minutes today between g- string f***in’ changes to publicly apologize and remove your abusive tweets. If you do not then you don’t give a s**t who you mock and what damage you do by being so ignorant.”
The Irish artist goes on to say that the matter will end, from her perspective, when the former Hannah Montana star publicly apologizes to her, Bynes, and all “mental health sufferers.”
Sinead O’Connor accuses Miley Cyrus of purposely trying to damage her career and implies it has caused her “enormous distress and harassment.”
O’Connor specifically refers to the tweets Miley used in her rant against her: “You deliberately gave the impression those tweets of mine were not two years old but reflect my current condition.”
At this point, Sinead O’Connor threatens Miley Cyrus with legal action unless she apologizes:
“If you cannot apologize I will have no choice but to bring legal proceedings against you since it is extremely hard to be given work when people think one is suffering from mental illness.”
One of the harshest excerpts from the “Nothing Compares To You” singer comes when she says:
“When you end up in the psych ward or rehab I’ll be happy to visit you.. and would not lower myself to mock you. Be a proper woman and make the public apologies I have listed above. Your hosting SNL is a bulls**t reason for not taking five minutes to do the right thing and your behavior yesterday will rebound upon you very badly.”
Sinead. I don’t have time to write you an open letter cause Im hosting & performing on SNL this week.
