Shelia Eddy, also known as Sheila Eddy, the teen who lured her best friend, Skylar Neese, out of the house and murdered her, along with her friend, Rachel Shoaf, four years ago, will make the next Snapped on Oxygen .
The episode titled, ‘”Sheila Eddy,” will examine what led two teens to murder their best friend in cold blood. The story will be told through interviews conducted with law enforcement officials, friends, and family of the victim. In this article, the names Sheila Eddy and Shelia Eddy are used to describe the killer, though it appears her real name is legally Shelia, which is different from the episode title.
Case File Facts: Death Of Skylar Neese And Her Killer Shelia Eddy 16-year-old Skylar Neese was reported missing by her parents after she failed to show up at her Star City, West Virginia, home in July 2012. At first, it was believed that it could possibly be a runaway case until the window in Skylar’s room was found open, indicating that she had sneaked out of the house with plans to come back home.
Authorities say she never made it home because her former two best friends killed her by luring her out of the house after midnight. Then, they took her to a remote area and killed her. Skylar Neese’s body was discovered in 2013.
Lesbian Sex And A Secret Between Friends: The Investigation
The police investigation revealed that Skylar Neese and Sheila Eddy (Shelia) had been close friends since they were small children. Rachel Shoaf was added to the group after they met her in high school. The three girls were inseparable people say, but at some point, they began having problems in their relationship and seemed to want Skylar Neese out of the group. It upset Skylar to see Rachel Shoaf and Shelia Eddy becoming so close.
Skylar Neese later learned the reason for their closeness. In her diary, it is alleged that she had seen Sheila Eddy and Rachel Shoaf having lesbian sex one night at a sleep over. It is believed that she held the secret even though Rachel and Sheila feared that she would tell everyone at school about the lesbian tryst.
A series of Twitter posts on the girls’ accounts indicated that trouble was brewing. Authorities say that on the night Skylar Neese was murdered, Shelia Eddy and Rachel Shoaf pretended that they wanted to be friends again, sending a slew of messages asking to meet up with her.
Skylar Neese felt as if something wasn’t right, and it appeared that she did not want to go. However, surveillance footage of the apartment complex where Skylar lived showed her getting into a car at around 12:30 a.m.

Other key points in the investigation reveal the following.
- Skylar believed that she was going for a joy ride and a smoke with her friends.
- Instead, Rachel Shoaf and Sheila Eddy drove to a remote location on the edge of Pennsylvania, where they stabbed the victim after counting to three.
- The killers dragged and dumped the body by a creek and covered it over with dirt, according to West Virginia court records , which state the following.
“Skylar sneaked out of her parents’ house, Eddy and Shoaf picked her up in a 2006 Toyota Camry owned by Eddy’s mother, Tara ‘Clendenen. The friends then traveled from Morgantown, West Virginia, to a ‘rural, sparsely populated area’ outside of Brave, Pennsylvania, where they parked, left the car, and began smoking marijuana. While Skylar had her back turned, Eddy and Shoaf ‘violently and repeatedly’ stabbed her in the neck and back with kitchen knives they had previously taped to their torsos and concealed under clothing.”
- For months, her frantic parents passed out fliers in an effort to find her.
- Sheila Eddy also helped look for Skylar and pretended to be distraught once they found her body in January 2013 in Pennsylvania.
Looking back, Skylar Neese’s parents said that they could see that Sheila Eddy was a bad influence on their daughter, according to an ABC 20/20 interview, which brought out that they didn’t like Eddy’s attitude most of the time, the Daily Mail states.
- They also believed that Skylar began sneaking out of the house because of Sheila Eddy.
- On one occasion, they even found marijuana in Skylar’s possession after she began hanging out with Sheila Eddy.
A Friendly Case Of Deadly Deception
The victim’s parents were outraged that Shelia Eddy could remain close to the family, knowing that she was the killer. The death of Skylar Neese made news headlines all over the nation and inspired a Lifetime movie titled, Death Clique. The book, Pretty Little Killers is also based on the case.
The deception on the part of Sheila Eddy reminds one of the infamous California murder of Missy Avila, aka Michelle Avila, a teen who was lured by her two best friends, Karen Severson and Laura Doyle, to the woods, where they beat her and placed a log on top of her body, according to People . The case went unsolved until a third girl came forward with information pointing to her two best friends. Karen Severson stayed in the victim’s home for a time after her death to help her mother cope. Missy Avila’s mother felt good that Karen was around to help her through the pain. It shocked and hurt the Avilas deeply when they found out that Karen was behind the brutal killing. Jealousy was cited as a motive. The Michelle Avila story was dramatized in an old movie titled, A Killer Among Friends , starring Patty Duke.
