Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and the rest of Hollywood are completely stunned by the results of this presidential election. With Donald Trump as the president-elect, artists in the U.S. and around the world are deeply worried about the future. In fact, the Divergent actress, who was an avid Bernie Sanders supporter and got arrested for joining the Standing Rock protests, has not posted anything on her Instagram since Election Day.
The last picture that the Divergent actress posted was a day ago when she sported a hoodie that supported the legalization of marijuana.
Since then, Donald Trump has been elected president and has rolled out plans to counter much of the work that President Barack Obama accomplished, opting to put some of the most extreme right-leaning politicians into positions of power.
The result of the election has stunned over half the population into silence, and it looks like Shailene Woodley is also taking the time to gather her thoughts before mobilizing her fans on Instagram.
This year has been a political one for the Divergent star. She has campaigned for Senator Bernie Sanders vehemently, plastering Instagram with infographics to educate her followers and pictures to show her support for the Democratic hopeful.
She also has been actively participating in the protests for Dakota Access Pipeline, even joining the movement at Standing Rock. The actress gained national attention when she got arrested for her peaceful protests and filming the police. After her release, she spoke to the media about her arrest.
“I was arrested on Oct. 10, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a holiday where America is meant to celebrate the indigenous people of North America,” the actress wrote for Time . “I was in North Dakota, standing in solidarity, side-by-side with a group of over 200 water protectors, people who are fighting the Dakota Access Pipeline.”
“I was in North Dakota, standing side by side with Native Americans,” she continued. “You know, those who were here before us. Well, guess what, America? They’re still here. And they are still fighting the good fight. A fight that serves each and every one of us.”
For all her work in the political sphere, she received an an award presented by the heavyweights in Hollywood. She probably knows that there are people who deserve this award more than she does, but she was happy to accept it on behalf of the people in North Dakota right now.
“It means a lot,” Shailene Woodley said, according to People Magazine . “This is the first time the InStyle Awards has had an advocacy award. Because of this election and because of so many issues that are facing not only our country but our planet, everyone is becoming aware and expanding our consciousness and expanding our horizons to include philanthropy in all aspects of our lives.”
While Theo James has not been as politically active as her, she had the support of her boyfriend Nahko Bear to get through the tough times.
“It’s a pretty remarkable time,” Shailene’s boyfriend said to the Bay Bridged . “[J]ust the amount of tribes that are being represented right now… Obviously there is the huge media blackout going on right now, it’s sad to observe on the one hand how much our country turns the other way, you know, and with the amount of numbers that are showing up it is getting some attention.”
When Shailene does take to Instagram to express her thoughts about Donald Trump getting elected as the president, how do you think she will craft her words? Let us know in the comments below!
