Shailene Woodley sincerely hopes people will start doing their part to help save and, ultimately, reconnect with the Earth.
The actress, who stars in both the Divergent series and the upcoming drama The Fault in Our Stars , believes that folks aren’t doing enough to get the planet back in shape. In her opinion, some self-proclaimed environmentalists aren’t truly connected with the Earth. Woodley is hoping this way of thinking will change in the near future.
Since Shailene has a lot to say on the matter, she didn’t have any trouble discussing the matter with the folks over at Natural Health . Woodley explained that she began taking an interest in such things early on.
“As a teenager, I started researching factory farming and genetically engineered foods and agriculture, and I found myself asking, ‘What’s the point of environmentalism if we keep separating ourselves from nature?’ The message was, ‘We’ve gotta save the Earth!’ when, in reality, we are nature and we are the Earth,” Shailene Woodley explained.
The actress added, “As human beings, we’re just another creature. But luckily, we’re gifted with consciousness and a mind that can manufacture change. If we plan to save the planet, we have to start with ourselves.”
How can everyday human beings reconnect with the Earth without having to completely alter their daily lives? According to ABC News , Woodley thinks eating clay is a step in the right direction . The Secret Life of the American Teenager star said the substance is one of the best things you can stuff inside your body.
“I’ve discovered that clay is great for you because your body doesn’t absorb it, and it apparently provides a negative charge, so it bonds to negative isotopes. And, this is crazy: it also helps clean heavy metals out of your body,” Shailene told Into the Gloss .
She continued, “My friend starting eating it and the next day she called me and said, ‘Dude, my s*** smells like metal.’ She was really worried, but we did some research together and everything said that when you first start eating clay, your bowel movements, pee, and even you, yourself, will smell like metal. You should obviously be careful about your source.”
If this advice sounds a bit extreme, then you might want to stick with watching Shailene Woodley on the big screen. Fans can catch the busy actress in director Josh Boone’s The Fault in Our Stars this summer. The movie opens around the country on June 6.
