Mexican immigration authorities confirmed yesterday that a “sex slavery cult” had been broken up by their agency after recruiting women among followers on the US border.
The Mexican sex slavery cult involved the “Defensores de Cristo” or, in English, the “Defenders of Christ” group. At the center was a man claiming to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ, and according to the Washington Post, the cult’s behavior was anything but Christ-like.
The paper reports that extensive abuse is believed to have occurred, and that victims were subject to dangerous conditions and pervasive sex abuse and rape across a lengthy period:
“Followers were subjected to forced labor or sexual services, including prostitution, according to the National Immigration Institute that said it filed a complaint more than a year ago about the cult.”
The Post continues:
“Federal police, agents of Mexico’s National Immigration Institute and prosecutors raided a house earlier this week near Nuevo Laredo, across the border from Laredo, Texas, and found cult members, including children, living in filthy conditions, according to the institute official.”
Reports indicate that the sex slavery cult operated in the area of Mexico heavily controlled by the famed Zetas cartel, a group that made headlines late last year after a bizarre suspected corpse theft following the death of one of their major leaders.
The leader at the center of the Mexican sex slavery cult is said to be Ignacio Gonzalez de Arriba, of Spain. It is unclear whether Gonzalez de Arriba was arrested in the raids on the group by Mexican immigration officials.
