Selena Gomez is a dark horse. The starlet has just hired Bradford Cobb, who also manages Katy Perry and Adam Lambert, as her manager.
The 21-year-old’s move into management big league comes after terminating her parents’ – Mandy Teefy and step-father Brian Teefy – role as her managers last month, Us Weekly reports.
Earlier this month, TMZ reported that Gomez’s decision to split from the family unit although not welcomed by her parents, was part of her maturing and family tensions didn’t motivate the separation .
After topping the Billboard 200 with her Stars Dance album on the back of just two singles “ Come & Get It ” and “ Slow Down ” last summer, Gomez’s ascent hiccuped last December when she canceled Australian and Asian tour legs before secretly entering rehab in January — reportedly over difficulties dealing with her breakup from Justin Bieber whom she appears to have rekindled a romance with .
Selena made bizarre headlines recently when she ‘unfollowed’ Kylie and Kendall Jenner on Instagram within a week of partying with them at Coachella, where she also spent time with Bieber.
But now, the 21-year-old appears to be back to business.
After parting ways with Disney’s Hollywood Records this year, Gomez seems to be focusing on her music by hiring Cobb.
With that in mind the Latina’s recent Instagram tease of a “secret project” and entertainment host Ryan Seacrest’s radio reveal that Selena has a new song and video ready to push, has whetted fans anticipation.
Cobb, who made the cut as one of Billboard’s 40 executives under 40 back in July 2013, has over a decade’s experience in the industry and turned Perry into a global superstar.
“For me, it’s really about the team,” Cobb told Billboard of his success. “Everyone [at Direct Management Group] works on all of the clients, and we build the right team for each artist.”
As for those moody Instagrams, today Gomez hit the photo-sharing site a video of herself in bed set to a short snippet and lyric caption of Brit singer Corinne Bailey Rae’s 2006 hit “ Put Your Records On .”
Although Gomez would later be deposed at a secret location in Los Angeles as a witness in a paparazzo-led lawsuit against Bieber , for now it seems music and perhaps hiring Cobb has put a smile back on the starlet’s face.
