The second trailer for Jeff Wadlow’s Kick-Ass 2 gives moviegoers a good look at the sort of damage Hit-Girl can do.
Although Kick-Ass might have his name in the title, it’s clear that Chloe Moretz’s character is going to have a meatier role this time around. The actress certainly has screen presence to spare, particularly when she’s beating up lots of bad guys.
The official plot synopsis from Universal Pictures suggested that Kick-Ass 2 would focus more on Hit-Girl after she heads off to high school. The latest trailer for the sequel offers a glimpse of the character’s struggle to fit in.
Moretz said during an interview with Collider last year that her character will start to question what she is doing with her life. The actress explained:
“In the first film, you saw more Hit-Girl, but in this one you’re going to see [Mindy] realize, ‘God, what was I doing? What am I doing? Who am I? Am I Hit Girl? Am I Mindy? What is my mask? Is my mask Mindy or is my mask Hit-Girl? Am I supposed to be this normal girl who goes to school and has this great life, or am I supposed to kill people and be a vigilante and be someone who fights crime?’ That’s what you’re going to see, this tug of war between the two minds of her.”
Kick-Ass 2 finds Mindy getting busted for sneaking out as Hit-Girl. She is forced to retire from crime-fighting as a result. This forces Kick-Ass to join up with a band of like-minded superheroes in an effort to take down his arch-enemy.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Christopher Mintz-Plasse will return with Chloe Grace Moretz for Wadlow’s highly-anticipated follow-up. Joining them for the second go-around is Morris Chestnut, John Leguizamo, Donald Faison, and Jim Carrey.
The latest trailer for the sequel has been embedded below. Although it’s not technically a red band trailer, the clip still contains a bit of language.
Director Jeff Wadlow’s Kick-Ass 2 will arrive in theaters on August 16. Are you looking forward to the sequel?
