Seattle Seahawks rumors link the team to some new targets in the 2016 NFL Draft. These Seahawks rumors come from a new NFL mock draft that was completed by NFL.com analyst Chad Reuter. This new mock draft has the Seahawks targeting Texas A&M guard Germain Ifedi in the first round. It contradicts what many other NFL experts had predicted, many of whom stated that the Seahawks would look to add a cornerback with the late first-round selection.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , the Seahawks added cornerback Brandon Browner to the roster, bringing back the former member of the “Legion of Boom.” This may have shifted the thinking of the front office back to improving an offensive line that has struggled to stay healthy in recent seasons. This is also something that a report from Sports Illustrated predicted earlier in the NFL offseason. It addressed Seattle Seahawks rumors about the team needing to add a significant piece on the offensive line.
Other positions that Sports Illustrated states the Seahawks need to address during the 2016 NFL Draft include cornerback, receiver, defensive tackle, and running back. With nine picks during the draft, the Seahawks have a number of chances to hit on a late-round star again. There have been numerous Seahawks rumors about combining some of those picks to move up in the second round, but that has not been confirmed at this time.
As for the other players that the Seahawks have been given in this newest NFL.com mock draft, there are quite a few that would fit the exact needs of the roster. Some of those predicted draft picks are Kansas State center Cody Whitehair in the second round, San Jose State running back Tyler Ervin in the third round, and LSU cornerback Rashard Robinson with a second third-round pick. That selection of Robinson comes with a compensatory pick that the Seahawks received. The team has three of them, giving the Seahawks nine total picks in the draft.
The last five predicted draft selections for the Seahawks are Notre Dame defensive tackle Sheldon Day in the fourth round, Virginia Tech defensive end Dadi Nicolas in the fifth round, Washington outside linebacker Travis Feeney in the sixth round, and then Auburn wide receiver Ricardo Louis and Florida tight end Jack McGee in the seventh round. All of these selections would fill the draft needs of the team heading into that weekend. While it’s often tough for NFL analysts to correctly predict late-round selections, there are some very interesting players in the mix.
The Seattle Times also released a new report on the upcoming draft, addressing the latest Seattle Seahawks rumors about drafting an offensive lineman for the first time (in the first round) since 2011. The article discusses how the team took a big hit by losing Russell Okung to the Denver Broncos, J.R. Sweezy to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Alvin Bailey to the Cleveland Browns during the NFL offseason. The current offensive linemen on the Seahawks roster will make about $8.7 million, which is the lowest mark in the NFL.
Some key offensive linemen that should be available for the Seahawks to draft with the No. 26 overall selection include Texas A&M tackle Germain Idefi, Alabama center Ryan Kelly, Texas Tech guard/tackle Le’Raven Clark, and Indiana tackle Jason Spriggs. The four linemen could each be a fit for the Seahawks depending on what the front office is looking to find. But will the Seahawks decide that an offensive lineman is the best option in the first round?
It has always been difficult for NFL analysts to predict who head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider are looking to add to the roster. Despite all the Seattle Seahawks rumors, the 2016 NFL Draft will likely be no different. First-round coverage begins on Thursday night, April 28, in Chicago.
