Seattle Seahawks Rumors: Brandon Browner Returning? Seahawks Reunite Legion Of Boom?

Seattle Seahawks rumors have Brandon Browner returning to the “Legion of Boom.” These Seahawks rumors may have just been confirmed by a report on NFL.com , as well . NFL analyst Chris Wesseling is stating that Browner will sign a one-year deal with the Seahawks on Monday, April 18.

Browner is a free agent who can sign with any team during the NFL offseason, and it appears that he wants to return to Seattle. As previously reported by the Inquisitr , Browner had stated during the 2015 NFL offseason that he wanted to return to Seattle. Now, the opportunity has presented itself again. This will allow him to return to the “Legion of Boom” with teammates Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman, and Kam Chancellor.

The Seattle Seahawks rumors are being met with mixed reactions on social media. He left the team following the 2013 NFL season and a Super Bowl victory by the team. That signing with the New England Patriots turned some Seahawks fans against him, but that could be reversed if he performs well during the 2016 NFL season. If the rumors turn out to be correct, the Seahawks also have to figure out where he will slot in the depth chart for the cornerback position.

Heading into the 2016 NFL season, the Seattle Seahawks have eight players under contract at the cornerback position. That includes Richard Sherman and Jeremy Lane in the starting slots. Lane just received a nice contract extension that will keep him on the roster for a while, suggesting he will be the second cornerback behind Sherman. It could indicate that Brandon Browner would then be the third cornerback and get used in specific defensive schemes.

Depth at the cornerback position has been a problem for the Seahawks in the past, so if Browner can perform at a high level again, this could be a huge signing for the team. It had been rumored that the Seahawks might target a cornerback at the end of the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, but signing Browner might allow the team to fill another need instead. Selecting a cornerback during a later round could still be on the table, though, especially given the history of head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider.

Browner played his first three NFL seasons with the Seahawks, starting all 36 games that he played in. During that time, he amassed 10 interceptions, two defensive touchdowns, and 39 pass deflections. During the 2011 NFL season alone, Browner had six interceptions for 220 yards and two touchdowns, as well as 23 pass deflections. Those numbers got him a spot on the NFC Pro Bowl team and helped showcase the “Legion of Boom” on a larger scale.

The Seattle Seahawks rumors about Brandon Browner don’t reveal a dollar figure for his one-year deal, but he likely had to give the team a discount to make it work under the salary cap. The Seahawks don’t have a lot of money left to spend this offseason, plus the team has to take into account any players added during the 2016 NFL Draft. A reason for Browner to offer that discount would, first of all, be to facilitate a return to Seattle, but secondly, it would be to prove he is worth a long-term extension during the next NFL offseason.

The Seahawks will likely have a press conference quickly following the signing if it takes place on Monday, April 18, as expected. Though it may be a signing that goes under the radar for most of the NFL, opponents from the NFC West will surely notice that the Seahawks just improved their secondary once again. This signing will also likely shift the Seattle Seahawks rumors when it comes to the 2016 NFL Draft. The draft takes place on from April 28-30 and the Seahawks have nine selections.
