Sara Kruzan was released from prison after being sentenced to life for killing her pimp.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , the FBI arrested 150 people in a sting that rescued 105 child prostitutes .
The kicker is that Sara Kruzan was forced into child prostitution at the age of 13 and then killed the pimp when 16 years old. It was 1994 when the shooting of Sara Kruzan’s pimp took place and the courts sentenced her to die in prison when only age 17. But Sara Kruzan contends that the pimp “sexually abused her and groomed her for six years to work as a child prostitute.”
Sara Kruzan was apparently a honor role student but her mother was addicted to drugs and abused her. The pimp started to try and convince her that sex should be up for sell and at age 13 had sex with her. She described how the pimp would use his “manhood” to punish the girls.
Eventually, Sara Kruzan could not take it any more. The defense in her case asked she be sentenced as juvenile but the judge believed that shouldn’t happen because she had planned out the murder of her pimp in advance. In video documentaries Sara Kruzan has admitted what she did was wrong but she still didn’t have a chance to earn her freedom from prison due to the sentencing.
In 2010, then California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger reduced Sara Kruzan’s prison sentence down to 25-years-to-life, with the possibility of parole, due to these reasons:
“Given Ms. Kruzan’s age at the time of the murder, and considering the significant abuse she suffered at his hands, I believe Ms. Kruzan’s sentence is excessive. It is apparent that Ms. Kruzan suffered significant abuse starting at a vulnerable age.”
But then in January of 2013, a judge reduced Sara Kruzan’s sentence from first degree murder down to second degree murder, which made her immediately viable for being released. State Senator Leland Yee has sought to soften life sentences for juveniles and believes the Sara Kruzan case is “just long overdue”:
“[Sara Kruzan’s case is the] perfect example of adults who failed her, of society failing her. You had a predator who stalked her, raped her, forced her into prostitution, and there was no one around.”
Sara Kruzan is now age 35 and was housed in the Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla. Sara Kruzan’s aunt plans on taking her in as soon as she is released.
