It’s been more than 20 years since the release of the greatest baseball movie in the history of film and this week The Sandlot cast had a little reunion to celebrate.
Squints, Tommy “Repeat” Timmons, Ham, and Yeah Yeah traveled to Salt Lake City this weekend to play a little baseball on the field that they made famous in the 1992 movie.
The actors, Patrick Renna (Ham), Chauncey Leopardi (Squints), Shane Obedzinski (Tommy ‘Repeat’ Timmons) and Marty York (Yeah Yeah) held a mini-camp with the youth team the Salt Lake Bees. The actors took a couple of swings and hung out with the little leaguers before settling down for a special screening for the movie’s 20th anniversary.
Renna said : “I don’t think any of us, when we were playing basically on this field 21 years ago could have every know there would be 1,500 people here to watch us play baseball.”
This isn’t the first Sandlot reunion to happen this year. Some of the cast members got together back in June to watch the classic baseball move on the Jumbotron at Target Field .
The Sandlot wasn’t the biggest box office success but it has gathered a pretty loyal following since its release in 1993. The movie featured kids hitting the guts out of baseballs, trash talk, urban legends, scary neighbors, s’mores, fireworks, a beast, Babe Ruth, the biggest pickle any kid from the 1990s has ever seen and, of course, Wendy Peffercorn.
The Sandlot is all about the nostalgia and the cast was definitely reliving their memories this week.
