The San Francisco 49ers new Levi stadium is first going to open with a soccer match. Do you think 49ers fans might have something to say about that?
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , the San Francisco 49ers’ Levi stadium has been filled with other tragic events of a more deadly sort .
Unfortunately, Levi stadium has seen the death of two workers occur while it has been under construction. One man was killed at the bottom of an elevator shaft and the other had a pile of steel rebar fall on top of him.
The San Francisco 49ers have been playing at Candlestick Park since 1971 so for the NFL team to make this move is a big deal indeed. The $1.2 billion Levi stadium will soon be home to the San Francisco 49ers football team and seat 68,500 in time for the 2014 NFL Super Bowl 50. But before the San Francisco 49ers will ever take up residence a soccer team will defile, er, have a game within its premises.
Reports are saying the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer will open the San Francisco 49ers’ new stadium in 2014. Earthquakes season and Levi Stadium ticketholders will have priority for the soccer game, while general admission tickets will go on sale at a later date.
Earthquakes President Dave Kaval explains why the new San Francisco 49ers stadium will first be used for soccer :
“Santa Clara and the 49ers are great partners and they are constructing a world-class venue that all the Bay Area can be proud of. We have seen great crowds around MLS over the past five years, especially in Seattle, but we are confident that this match will once again demonstrate that the Bay Area has the most passionate soccer fans in the country.”
Soccer apparently has seen a growth in its number of sports fans in the United States in recent years. It’s possible the San Francisco 49ers will be sharing their Levi stadium with a soccer team for years to come.
What do you think about the San Francisco 49ers’ new Levi stadium being broken in by the Earthquakes soccer team?
