Samsung is about to release the Galaxy S7, and according to 9to5Google , it will be a monster of a smartphone .

“A quick rundown of its specs alone reminds us that we are dealing with a metal-and-glass sandwich powered by either Qualcomm’s best system-on-a-chip, the Snapdragon 820, or the latest iteration of Samsung’s own Exynos chips.”

The article adds that there will be 4GB of RAM, a minimum of 32GB of internal storage, the return of the microSD card slot, a QHD AMOLED display with an “Always On” mode, an improved fingerprint scanner, a 12MP camera, and an incredible 3,000mAh battery (3,600 on the Edge model).

According to Tech Insider , those who pre-order the Galaxy S7 will be given a very special gift.

“You’ll get a free Gear VR headset if you pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge…The Gear VR is a virtual reality (VR) headset that uses Samsung’s latest flagship devices, including the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, and Note 5, to play VR content.”

It is not known yet if Samsung is making an updated Gear VR for just the Samsung Galaxy S7 or if Samsung’s new smartphone will be compatible with the version of the Gear VR that was released in December. Either way, this is an excellent deal, and even though the Gear VR has some issues, it has received a generally favorable response. Wearable gave Samsung’s virtual reality headset four stars .

“It’s immersive, sure, and that’s the buzzword but you won’t just be immersed by the images and audio, you’ll feel like you’re really there. If you find yourself at the edge of a rock in ustwo’s Gear VR game Land’s End , you’ll get a bit of vertigo, it’s that powerful. In short, it’s magic.”

However, other reviews note that even thought the Gear VR definitely has the “cool” factor, it still has a screen door effect due to the low resolution (at least for VR) of the smartphone screens used with it. Others say that the device makes them dizzy, especially since there is no motion tracking. Another big problem is that the lenses fog up very easily.

There is even more good news for Gear VR and Galaxy S7 enthusiasts: Samsung is about to release a virtual reality 360 camera for use with the Galaxy S7 and Gear VR.

“Only a few weeks ago, the first hints pointing to a new 360 degree camera named Gear 360 surfaced. Now, with only a few weeks until Samsung’s next big Unpacked event, we can exclusively confirm the Gear 360 VR camera is real, and coming soon,” claims SamMobile .

The site adds that the Gear 360 is a compact spherical camera capable of capturing 360 degree imagery using two 180 degree fisheye lenses. It is able to pair with a phone via Bluetooth. It may work with recent Galaxy devices, but — for now — is only confirmed to be compatible with the Galaxy S7.

The Galaxy S7 and the Gear 360 will be announced at a Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in Barcelona on February 21. According to a recent article on Inquisitr , the device could be available for pre-order on the same day. Let’s hope Samsung can revive itself from all the low sales of the previous years.
