Ryan Seacrest Is ‘Worst Part’ Of New Year’s Eve, Other Than Being Drunk — Dick Clark’s Successor Bashed By John Oliver [Video]

Comedian John Oliver says Ryan Seacrest is one of the worst parts of New Year’s Eve, calling the host of Dick Clarks New Year’s Rockin’ Eve one of the “least pleasant things known to mankind.”

Oliver, who spent several years as a correspondent and fill-in host on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart , talks about how “truly awful” New Year’s Eve in a special Web exclusive from Last Week Tonight , a show he currently hosts on HBO. [Video above.]

Not only does Oliver think Ryan Seacrest is unpleasant, he also states that being “drunk, cold and tired” ranks right up there with watching Dick Clark’s successor countdown the final minutes of the year.

“New Year’s Eve is the worst. It combines three of the least pleasant things known to mankind: Forced interaction with strangers; being drunk, cold and tired; and having to stare at Ryan Seacrest for five solid minutes, waiting for him to tell you what the time is.”

Vox points out that Oliver doesn’t just complain about how staring at Ryan Seacrest for the final minutes of the year is unpleasant, he also offers up some helpful tips on how to get out of making plans with friends on the night that everyone stays up late just to watch the Times Square Ball drop — something you could DVR and watch the next day if you’d rather sleep.

“Let’s say you’ve been invited to a party at a friend’s house. Obviously, you don’t want to go. That’s a five hour commitment if you leave at 12:01… Do you really want to sit on your friend’s sofa and watch hummus turn brown all night? No. Nobody does… so here’s the trick… simply tell them you’re doing a cleanse. The beauty is, there will be no follow-up questions because nobody wants to hear about your f***ing cleanse.”

Entertainment Weekly writer Teresa Jue completely agrees with John Oliver’s thoughts about New Year’s Eve , “especially for anyone who has ever needed to use the bathroom while waiting for the damned ball to drop in Times Square.”

Watch John Oliver completely bash New Year’s Eve in the three minute video clip above. If you don’t have a problem with staring at Ryan Seacrest for a few hours, tune in to watch the big countdown and performances by Taylor Swift and One Direction on Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve 2015 with Ryan Seacrest starting at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
