Ryan Nassib had to wait quite a bit longer than he thought he would to get drafted . The former Syracuse quarterback expected to be a first round pick but was finally selected by the New York Giants in the fourth round.
While the former Orangemen might be tempted to take offense at just how many teams passed him over, he can at least take solace in the fact that the Giants traded up in order to make him the 110th player taken.
Many thought the versatile quarterback would end up going in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft to the Buffalo Bills. The Bills are now being coached by former Syracuse head man Doug Marrone and it seemed a no-brainer that he would go after his former signal caller.
Ryan Nassib instead had to wait and watch former Florida State quarterback EJ Manuel become the only QB to be selected in the first round. Adding insult to injury was that Manuel was selected by the Bills.
The good news is that the Syracuse quarterback will still be able to stay close to home thanks to the Giants finally drafting him. If the former Orangeman thinks he’s going to get a chance to compete for playing time anytime soon, he should think again.
Giants General Manager Jerry Reese commented that he hopes “he never gets to play here.” This isn’t because Reese has something against his new draft choice. Rather the general manager hopes that starting quarterback Eli Manning will be healthy and good enough for years to come.
This is a situation where the team drafted someone they hope can be a very good backup but not someone who has to be pressed into much duty due to injury or ineffectiveness.
What do you think of the choice of Ryan Nassib as the New York Giants 4th round draft choice?
