Katniss Everdeen is gearing up for one last fight against the Capitol in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 . Since the release of the movie in November will conclude perhaps the most successful young adult franchise ever, fans are chomping at the bit to see what Lionsgate has in store for them. So when can we expect our first taste of Mockingjay, Part 2 ? Well, according to the Projection List , the teaser is set to be released on March 20 in front of Lionsgate’s other big property, The Divergent Series: Insurgent .
This report from the Projection List is far from official, however, as Design & Trend notes.
“If ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2’ does indeed debut with ‘Insurgent,’ it will be a departure from the way ‘The Hunger Games Mockingjay, Part 1’ trailer was released. For that film, Lionsgate released the first trailer through TheCapitol.PN , a promotional site which also featured images from the movie.”
Last year, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 brought in an impressive $337 million at the U.S. box office alone and stood as the highest grossing film of 2014 until American Sniper recently took away its title (via Box Office Mojo ). While Part 1 was still a successful film, it was a noticeable dropoff from 2013’s Catching Fire , which brought in $424 million in the U.S. While this could be a sign that interest in The Hunger Games is finally waning, it’s also possible that audiences opted to skip the movie after less-than-stellar experiences with other “part 1” films like Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, Part 1 , The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 , and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey .
All the same, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 is practically guaranteed to hit it big at the box office this year, even with all the tough competition it’s facing. From Avengers: Age of Ultron to Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Force Awakens (not to mention two Pixar films), it’s going to be quite the battle for first place by year’s end. But something Mockingjay, Part 2 has that the others don’t is the conclusion to an ongoing story.
The upcoming film follows Katniss and the rest of District 13 as they revolt against President Snow and the Capitol. As mentioned at the top of the article, this film will conclude the four-part series based on the hit YA novels from Suzanne Collins. To date, the Hunger Games films have brought in over $2.3 billion worldwide.
