Rosie O’Donnell’s daughter Chelsea was reported missing earlier this month. Now, media has confirmed that Chelsea has gone to Wisconsin to live with her birth mother. TMZ reported that Deanna Micoley picked Chelsea up on Monday afternoon. It was the girl’s 18th birthday.
A representative for Rosie O’Donnell confirmed the move in a statement to Us Weekly .
“Chelsea made a decision when she turned 18 that she wanted to go to her birth mother. This was her choice.”
Entertainment Tonight reached Micoley to request a statement, which was brief.
“Leave my daughter out of Rosie’s stuff.”
Chelsea, 17 at the time, was found in the company of a 25-year-old man on August 18 after having been reported missing. According to ET , the man, Steven Sheerer, was charged Monday with child endangerment and distribution of obscenity to a minor. The latter charge stems from a nude photo Sheerer sent to Chelsea.
TMZ reported that Sheerer would claim as his defense that he believed Chelsea to be of legal age, since she allegedly showed up on his Tinder feed. ET reported that Sheerer is still in jail with bail set at $40,000.
On Wednesday O’Donnell posted a poem to her personal website called “The Great Escape.” She tweeted a link to the poem but did not include any commentary. Some of the poem’s verses seem like they might refer to her current family situation.
“But I won’t let you make the great escape, I’m never gonna watch you checking out of this place I’m not gonna lose you ‘Cause the passion and pain Are gonna keep you alive someday Gonna keep you alive someday”
Rosie O’Donnell has five children. She shares Chelsea and three other children with her former partner Kelli Carpenter. She also has a daughter with ex-wife Michelle Rounds, according to Us Weekly .
O’Donnell left her second stint at The View back in February. People quoted O’Donnell as saying her health and family life led to her abrupt departure from the show. At the time, she was in the midst of a divorce from Rounds.
“There’s lots of stuff going on at home and there’s lots of stuff going on at work. The only thing I can really control is the work, by leaving.”
“The truth is I had a heart attack two years ago, and stress is very bad for heart attack survivors. I’m minimizing my stress by leaving ‘The View’… the stress that I’m having at home isn’t as easily remediable.”
