Rosie O’Donnell has been through the wringer when it comes to her feud with her estranged daughter, Chelsea O’Donnell, and as much as Chelsea may be pushing her adoptive mother away, it seems as if Rosie has no plans of letting go.
While many believe that the drama between Rosie O’Donnell and her adoptive daughter, Chelsea, began back in August when the former View host reported the 17-year-old missing, Rosie has stated that it started long before when Chelsea was diagnosed with a mental illness, and even still, long before that.
According to Us Weekly , during one of Rosie’s stand-up shows earlier in October, she decided to open up about her family drama and to clarify a few things. As stated earlier, while many believe that the O’Donnell family drama began in August after Chelsea ran away from home, Rosie states that it actually began much earlier.
“It’s been a decade long,” said Rosie as she talked about her family and her daughter being a regular presence in the news.
As if being a celebrity persona’s child isn’t difficult enough, Chelsea was also adopted, a topic which Rosie also addressed during her show.
“For adopted children 18 is a magic number. At 18 they’re gonna rebel any way they can, any way they can get your attention.”
In August, the then-17-year-old Chelsea had reportedly run away from home, spurring Rosie’s frantic social media plea for the public’s help to find her considering she had left home without her medications for an unspecified mental illness. It wasn’t long before she was found in the home of 25-year-old Steven M. Sheerer, a friend she supposedly met on the dating app, Tinder.
While peace seemed to have settled in the O’Donnell household, it wasn’t long before Chelsea turned 18-years-old, and as a legal adult she made the decision to leave Rosie’s home and move in with her birth mother, Deanna Micoley . Despite a heartbroken Rosie, it seemed as if the fire was beginning to settle as Micoley and Chelsea had a warm reunion, and news of Chelsea began to die down.
According to People , the peace between Micoley and Chelsea O’Donnell didn’t last long. According to the magazine, Chelsea only stayed with Micoley for a week before she made the decision to move once again and stay with Sheerer’s family. Ironically enough, Micoley has admitted that Chelsea is not speaking with her now, either.
News broke earlier this week after Chelsea O’Donnell reportedly interviewed with Inside Edition in hopes of setting the record straight and telling her side of the story. While the general media seems to have painted Chelsea as a rebel child looking for attention, she claims that she didn’t leave on her own accord. In fact, Chelsea claims that Rosie was the one that kicked her out.
“She got upset with me because I wouldn’t talk to her and said she was getting all that stuff at work and didn’t need it at home and to take my dog and ‘have a nice life.’ “
She also goes on to say that Rosie’s claims of her having a mental disorder are simply not true, though she does admit that she suffers from anxiety and depression, though she isn’t “a crazy person.” With all the hype over Chelsea’s interview and the never ending drama with her adoptive mother, Chelsea reportedly took to social media with a plea to give her a little privacy and to stop associating her with Rosie.

It wasn’t long after Chelsea’s plea was made that Rosie took to Twitter and shared a message of her own.

While many saw Rosie O’Donnell’s message as an immature response to a child who seems to be seeking attention, many fans have fought back claiming that Rosie is simply a mother who wants her child to know that she is there, and will always be there despite Chelsea’s choices.
