Comedian and actress Roseanne Barr is going blind, and she’s opening up about what it is she’s currently going through. Some fans could tell that something was up given her unique appearance at the Tribeca Film Festival over the weekend. What’s the scoop?

The Daily Beast talked with Roseanne Barr , who says that she has glaucoma and macular degeneration. She reveals that her vision is closing in significantly already, but her doctors haven’t given her a specific timeframe regarding when she might completely lose her sight. While it’s clear that she’s realistic about where things are headed, she also indicates that she’s still got a lot on her plate.

The actress says that her father had macular degeneration as well and she’s trying to “enjoy vision as much as possible — y’know, living it up” for as long as she can. Part of that living it up, she discusses, is embracing marijuana.

Barr attended the Tribeca Film Festival as the documentary of her presidential run in 2012, Roseanne For President!, was being shown. Some may remember that Roseanne wanted to be the Green Party nominee, but she ended up running as the Peace and Freedom Party nominee instead.

The actress and comedian has always been known for speaking her mind, whether it’s about marijuana, Bill Cosby , or now Hillary Clinton. While many know her best for her days headlining the comedy Roseanne , which ran from 1988 to 1997, she’s done a lot since then and seems to embrace controversy.

Though Barr has been working on her own projects much of the time over the past few years, the Daily Mail notes that she does have a guest stint coming up on Cristela . Other relatively recent roles include spots on The Millers and The Office .

Roseanne Barr has made no secret of her support for legalizing marijuana. However, given her current battles with glaucoma and macular degeneration, it seems clear that her passion for marijuana is strengthened even further.

Barr notes that the marijuana she uses helps with the pressure in her eyes, and she is a believer in its power to help with many other ailments, as well. Roseanne’s advocacy for legalizing marijuana comes at a powerful time, given the progress being made in many states to make it legal, or at least decriminalize it.

Will Roseanne Barr’s openness about going blind help raise awareness and support for her marijuana legalization efforts? Many will be curious to find out.
