How well can Ronda Rousey play Ronda Rousey? That’s the question that will be answered once the film My Fight / Your Fight nears completion. The movie will be based on Ronda Rousey’s autobiography of the same name.
When the book was released earlier this year, it went on to become a New York Times best seller. And after a win, which took just 34 seconds at UFC 190 , Ronda Rousey seems unstoppable. She knocked out Bethe Correia on Saturday night in another effortless victory.
This won’t be the only film Rousey is working on. She’s also filming Mile 22 , an international action film looking for a 2016 release. She will also star in the Athena Project , an action movie adapted from Brad Thor’s novel of the same name.
It seems like the more people Ronda Rousey defeats in the octagon, the more attention she attracts from movie producers. She broke out last year with a role in The Expendables 3 . This year, she starred in Furious 7 and Entourage , the movie adapted from the TV series of the same name.
This isn’t the first time Ronda played herself in a movie. In the comedy Entourage, she appeared in a cameo as herself. Through the role, she was able to get a taste for acting outside the action movie realm, and was able to further develop her acting chops — but playing herself in a movie entirely about her life is another kind of challenge. Mark Bomback will both turn the book written by Rousey and her sister into a movie script and serve as executive producer.
As for how she got the role, Variety told of Rousey’s efforts to star once the rights to the story were up for sale.
“Insiders say that Rousey showed interest in appearing in the film and wanted to be sure Paramount was on board as soon as the rights to the book were put on the market. Paramount execs were impressed by her ability to balance a film career while staying in top fighting shape.
Ever since breaking out in Expendables 3 , Rousey has made it clear that she does not discuss outside business while training. With the fight behind her, she can now develop the project with Bomback in a way she feels will paint the best portrait of her life.”
So, for all those fans wondering how Ronda Rousey grew up and developed into an amazing fighter with a perfect record who defeats opponents in a matter of seconds, My Fight / Your Fight will be your chance to learn the whole story.
