Ronald Reagan’s mansion has been listed for sale for $33 million. The California estate is where Reagan learned he was going to become president after getting a concession phone call from Jimmy Carter. A plaque hangs on the mall to note the exact spot Reagan stood when he got the much anticipated good news. He was taking a shower when Nancy knocked on the door and handed him the phone.
Nancy Reagan and Ronald Reagan ultimately gave up the now-$33 million mansion and picturesque estate after they moved into the White House. The couple decided they were not going to have time to travel back to their beloved home while handling the duties required by the country.
President Reagan and Nancy watched their two children grow up inside the Pacific Palisades home, and enjoyed spending time outdoors watching the ocean. The former president and first lady lived in the six bedroom estate for 30 years. The property also boasts a pool and a separate guest house.
At the time the home was purchased, Reagan was the host of General Electric Theater. The company volunteered to build him a home on the property which showcased the latest kitchen and lighting products — and a new recreational concept they were trying out — the home theater.
California real estate developers bought the Ronald Reagan estate in 2012. At the time, the property was only 4,700-square-feet in size and worth about $5 million. The house had been dubbed the “Home of the Future” and was designed to attract buyers who wanted opulence and the latest technology of the time.
President Ronald Reagan reportedly became enamored with the property because of its rugged surroundings in the then-secluded region of the Pacific Palisades Santa Monica Mountains. Reagan frequently hiked through the isolated terrain which surrounded his home.
Today, the area is filled with luxurious homes where a plethora of Hollywood celebrities reside.

“I’ll never forget the night he was elected. It was just after 5, so it was already nighttime on the East Coast. I took a bath, and Ronnie got in the shower. The phone started ringing,” Nancy Reagan once recalled about the phone call on election night.
President Jimmy Carter was reportedly heard as saying, over the still running shower water, “Mr. Reagan? Congratulations. You’re the President of the United States.”

Although a completely new property has replaced the original home of Ronald and Nancy Reagan, the real estate developers retained a number of artifacts from the Reagan home and incorporated them into their design.
In addition to the brass plaque next to Ronald Reagan’s shower door, the next owner of the $33 million mansion will be able to sip drinks with friends on the outdoor deck where the former president once spent a lot of time with his devoted wife.
The Ronald Reagan estate boasts 270-degree views from the Pacific Ocean to the Channel Islands and from Downtown Los Angeles to Griffith Park. The Spanish Revival home also has a state-of-the-art security system and can be reached only by traveling up a 300-foot-long gated and tightly landscaped driveway, the Daily Mail reports.

The new home theater on the lavish Pacific Palisades mansion is cashmere lined, has a drop down movie projector, a built-in bar, and seating for 15 people. A total of 25,000 peacock feathers were used to wallpaper the lower floor power room. The mansion also has a staff bedroom suite with a private bathroom and a mud room.
The new owners can either climb a lavish staircase or take an elevator to reach the second floor master suite, home gym, and four other bedrooms.
