After a very long wait, the first trailer for MGM’s RoboCop reboot has arrived online.
Fans of director Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 action classic have been extremely vocal about the upcoming remake. Although the film has quite a bit of talent in front of the camera, most folks seem to think the project is an extremely bad idea.
The Inquisitr previously reported that the first trailer for Jose Padilha’s re-imagining of the story hit the internet on Thursday (September 5). Not surprisingly, it didn’t take very long for social media to form an opinion about the movie.
Much to this writer’s surprise, a lot of people who have watched the RoboCop reboot trailer aren’t violently opposed to its existence. While the film definitely has its detractors — some people simply cannot be swayed otherwise — Twitter doesn’t seem to hate it with a passion.
“‘RoboCop’ trailer is as expected. Pretty but apparently lacking any of the wit that made the first film so good,” one micro-blogger recently tweeted.
“Just saw the new ‘RoboCop’ trailer, childhood’s rushing back!” another person posted .
The Killing alum Joel Kinnaman stars as police officer Alex Murphy in the RoboCop reboot . After a car bomb leaves him severely burned, scientists at OmniCorp decide to use his body for an experiment. Using the latest technology, Murphy is transformed into the future of law enforcement.
Instead of wiping his memory, the remake keeps the character’s human side front and center. It will be interesting to see how fans react to this twist on the story. Judging from the trailer, the movie seems to have more in common with Iron Man than Verhoeven’s RoboCop .

The ROBOCOP trailer is a good time to announce I’m quitting film criticism.

I said this when Total Recall came out. Stop saying remake. Say Diet Robocop. Or perhaps Robocop Lite.

The trailer for the Robocop remake is… interesting. I’ll withhold judgement until I see it, but the original’s satirical bite seems absent.

Just seen the new robocop trailer. Looks a bit samey. Maybe should have made it a female robocop instead.
