Robin Thicke was recently named one of the Entertainers of the Year by Entertainment Weekly . However, not everyone agrees with this accolade.
Miley Cyrus, who famously teamed up with Thicke for her pearl-clutching performance at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, firmly believes that producer and musician extraordinaire Pharrell Williams should take home the honor . Unfortunately of his fans, the guy wasn’t included in this year’s Entertainment Weekly list.
In case you’re out of the pop music loop, Williams helped out on the insanely popular Robin Thicke tune “Blurred Lines.” Since he did so much work behind-the-scenes on a number of this year’s top albums, Cyrus is of the opinion that Pharrell should have received a nod from the publication.
“I really think Pharrell [Williams] is the entertainer of the year. Not only for what he did on my record, but for what he did in the music industry in general with ‘Blurred Lines’ and Daft Punk,” the “Wrecking Ball” singer recently revealed.
Cyrus also had nothing but praise for Pharrell’s work on her latest album Bangerz . In fact, Miley seems to adore just about everything Williams does. There’s no telling now much time she’s spent watching the producer’s 24-hour music video for “Happy.”
The singer said of Williams’ work :
“He and I were kind of on the same path, and I think that’s why he and I connected. He really feels like a brother – it’s more than just us working together. No one had heard from me or him in a minute, and we were just kind of brewing up what we wanted to do next and what we wanted to drop on people. He and I were on kind of a journey together, and I couldn’t be more happy for him and what he accomplished this year in everything — in fashion, in art, everything he does.”
Unfortunately for Robin Thicke , he recently received yet another countersuit from singer Marvin Gaye’s family. According to the folks over at Mstarz , Marvin Gaye III filed a counterclaim against Thicke that states “Blurred Lines” isn’t the only song the singer and his producers lifted from Gaye’s catalog of iconic music.
“Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ (copied from Gaye’s ‘Got To Give It Up’), Thicke’s ‘Love After War’ (copied from Gaye’s ‘After The Dance’), Thicke’s ‘Make U Love Me’ (copied from Gaye’s ‘I Want You’), and Thicke’s ‘Million Dolla Baby’ (copied from Gaye’s ‘Trouble Man’) all serve as examples of songs so similar to Gaye’s songs as to leave no doubt but that they were each wholly dependent for their very creations upon Thicke’s brazen copying,” the lawsuit explains. Thicke has yet to respond to the recent counterclaim.
