Robin Thicke achieved a milestone this week with his first UK number one, grabbing the top spot for single “Blurred Lines.”

Robin Thicke’s collaboration with TI and Pharrell has rapidly become the year to date’s fastest selling single, and has by far and away been the artist’s biggest UK success to date.

Mag Billboard explains that Thicke’s breakout hit has surpassed his previous chart showings in the UK, explaining :

” ‘Blurred Lines’ thus easily becomes the biggest single in the U.K. for U.S. soulman Thicke, whose only previous showing was the No. 11 success ‘Lost Without U’ in 2007. It’s also the second chart-topper to feature Williams in three weeks, following his appearance on Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky,’ which dipped 2-3 on the new list.”

Thicke sold 190,000 copies of the track and shot ahead of the last 2013 bestseller, “La La La” by Naughty Boy.

According to the Canadian singer, the milestone is a long-desired achievement, and he says :

“It’s an honour and a pleasure to be number one in the UK. It’s something I’ve always dreamed of and I am so grateful to all the people who made this dream come true.”

As Robin Thicke snatches the top spot, Naughty Boy and Sam Smith fall to number two, pushing Daft Punk to third place with “Get Lucky.”

Passenger dropped a spot to number four with “Let Her Go,” and Jessie J featuring Big Sean and Dizzee Rascal enter at number five with “Wild.”

It’s not clear whether Robin Thicke will manage to hold the top spot in the fast-moving UK charts into a second week — but the achievement is still huge for the singer.
