Rita Wilson is cancer free, according to her latest diagnosis. She and mega-celebrity Tom Hanks stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman to share the news with the world.
The news came from the couple on Monday night, as the Sleepless in Seattle co-star arrived hand in hand with husband Hanks, who was scheduled to appear anyway. Unlike Hanks’ unfortunate diagnosis that he has Type II Diabetes , it turns out Wilson’s breast cancer scare was treatable.
The discovery of breast cancer had led the 58-year-old to step down from her role in the Broadway play Fish in the Dark . She returned to the stage at the beginning of May.
The couple’s revelation on The Late Show comes only days after his son, Colin Hanks , appeared on Entertainment Tonight with the same news about his stepmother.
The news of Rita Wilson being cancer-free is a relief after her emotional reveal on Facebook back in April. She had undergone a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery following the reveal, and apparently that was all she needed.
According to Hello Magazine , Wilson told the press how the announcement and ensuing actions have brought her and Tom closer.
“Who knew it would make you even closer? You never know how your spouse is going to react in a situation like this. I was so amazed, so blown away by the care my husband gave me. It was such a normal, intimate time.
I feel blessed to have a loving, supportive husband, family, friends and doctors and that I am the beneficiary of advances in the field of breast cancer and reconstruction. I am getting better every day and look forward to renewed health.”
Later on The Late Show with David Letterman , Tom Hanks was in such a good mood, he even showed the talk show host how to use a selfie stick .
