Earlier this year, Rihanna was rumored to be working on a new album after producer Cardo revealed that he had been working on some new material with the singer following the release of her eighth studio album, Anti , which dropped in late January.
During an interview with Complex UK in April, Cardo explained that he and Rihanna previously recorded a song that was intended to be featured on Anti , however, he hints that the track had since been bumped to another album.
“There’s so many records we’ve been working on that’s about to come out. I can’t say anything beyond that, but we got a record with Rihanna. That’s all I can say. I can’t say anything more, but there’s a Rihanna and Cardo record,” the producer explained of his upcoming projects.
When asked if Rihanna would serve as a feature on his track, Cardo reveals, “No, no, it’s her song.”
“It was for Anti , but there’s another Anti . I don’t know if it’s official, but I know we have a record.”
Rumors of a ninth studio album release from Rihanna, which fans have dubbed R9 in the absence of an official announcement regarding the album, were further fueled earlier this year after several fan sites learned that Rihanna had registered three new songs titled “Body Language,” “Lock and Key,” and “Joyride,” Digital Spy reports.
While it’s unclear if the registered songs are intended for a new Rihanna album or possibly a repackaged album release for Anti , one Twitter user recently discovered two newly registered tracks from Rihanna, one of which reportedly includes a feature from rapper and songwriter, J. Cole.

Earlier this month, the user took to Twitter to share screengrabs of the two registered tracks, the first titled “Mayday,” co-written by composer Michael McGregor, and the second titled “Shotgun,” which was written by Rihanna and lists J. Cole as a feature for the project.
While Rihanna hasn’t confirmed the existence of an R9 album, the “Needed Me” singer did surprise fans with the release of her Mike Will Made-It produced track, “Nothing’s Promised,” back in June after months of speculation suggesting that the track would appear on an Anti follow-up album.

In addition, Rihanna seemingly hinted that she is working on new music after promising fans in attendance at her “Anti World Tour” in Jacksonville that she would never “be that long ever again” in returning to the city for a stadium tour.
“Thank you so much, Jacksonville. I love you guys, we need to come back here. It won’t be that long EVER again. I PROMISE you. Miss you guys already,” Rihanna told concertgoers, Unreality TV UK reports.
While fans eagerly await news of a new album release from Rihanna, the songstress has plenty of upcoming projects in store to keep fans busy for the remainder of the year.
Earlier this week, producers for A&E’s Bates Motel confirmed that Rihanna would be playing the role of Marion Crane in the show’s upcoming final season, noting that Rihanna is a “fan of the show” and would create “the perfect collision of creativity and fate” for the horror television series’ fifth season, according to the Hollywood Reporter .

In addition, filmmaker Peter Berg is said to be filming a documentary about Rihanna for his new production company, Film 45, that aims to capture an “unfiltered look into Rihanna’s life and how she’s ascended to become a global icon,” Rolling Stone reports. There’s currently no firm release date for the project, however, Berg is rumored to be capturing footage from Rihanna’s “Anti World Tour,” which concludes next month in Belgium.
