Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) has lawyered up after an incident the Congressman says is Twitter harassment and nothing more.
Late Friday night, a Twitter user claimed Weiner had accidentally published a Yfrog pic of his… namesake, and quickly tried to cover it up. No credible journalistic source has confirmed that the incident occurred, and Breitbart and his protege James O’Keefe have been exposed creatively editing and manufacturing tales out of whole cloth several times in the past . Reps for Weiner, who originally dismissed the scandal as a “distraction,” say the Congressman’s flak are reluctant to acknowledge the prank with legal action- but the move is necessary:
“We’ve retained counsel to explore the proper next steps and to advise us on what civil or criminal actions should be taken,” Weiner spokesman Dave Arnold said in an email to The Daily Caller . “This was a prank. We are loath to treat it as more, but we are relying on professional advice.”
Also implicated in the drama (by a Twitter user some believe is affiliated with conservablogger Andrew Breitbart) is 21-year-old Seattle student Gennette Cordova. Cordova, who says she has been harassed since the “story” broke, was connected in the incident after it was discovered she tweeted about her “boyfriend,” Anthony Weiner. Cordova huffs:
“The point I am trying to make is that, contrary to the impression that I apparently gave from my tweet, I am not his girlfriend,” Cordova wrote. “Nor am I the wife, girlfriend or mistress of Barack Obama, Ray Allen or Cristiano Ronaldo, despite the fact that I have made similar assertions about them via Twitter.”
If anyone’s got the chutzpah to eviscerate Breitbart up and down, it’s Weiner. The scandal has yet to play out fully, but it seems much of the internet is Team Weiner. What do you think about the scandal and Weiner’s reaction? And considering the whole dildo boat fiasco O’Keefe tried to pull off, why are Breitbart and his pals so completely fixated on phalluses?
