Reese Witherspoon, the Richest Actress in the World, Calls It Quits On Her Marriage to Jim Toth

Reese Witherspoon's staggering net worth makes her the richest female actor in the world, especially after she caught the attention of Arsenal supporters by revealing that she's a fan of the club. Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon has revealed that she would love to invest in Arsenal. Witherspoon is best known for starring in Legally Blonde and The Big Little Lies, but she is also a big football fan. Reese Witherspoon and her husband Jim Toth have been on the news recently, since announcing that they are separating after nearly 12 years of marriage. In a joint statement, posted by Witherspoon on Instagram, the 47-year-old actor, and her husband said they made the decision to divorce after “a great deal of care and consideration,” reported The Daily Mail.

According to Daily Mail, Witherspoon, 46, told BBC's The One Show that she was indeed a Gooner and left the door open to investing in the north London club, which sits top of the Premier League table. Having already pumped cash into Major League Soccer side Nashville Soccer Club last year, the star appears to have set her sights on a bigger fish. It would be a smart move for the star, 46, who was named by Forbes magazine as the wealthiest actress in the world in 2021, with a net worth of $400 million. 

Making an appearance on the BBC show alongside co-star Ashton Kutcher to promote their new Netflix film Your Place or Mine, Witherspoon was asked about her interest in football. Host Jermaine Jenas broached the topic of investing in a British club in a move that would see her follow in the footsteps of fellow Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who are the acclaimed owners of Welsh giants Wrexham.

"If there's space in Arsenal, all my sons and everybody would be really excited. That's our favorite team," Witherspoon cheerfully replied. "We watched the game the other day. It was bananas! That's our team." Her answer wasn't one that Jenas was hoping for, as the former Tottenham midfielder bemoaned in a jovial response: "You've literally picked my rivals." Witherspoon added, "I'm probably going to really wreck myself here, too, because there are people out there who are not Arsenal fans! I also like PSG" Jenas then quipped: "Go with PSG instead please, Reese, that'd much more friendly."

As of 2023, Reese had a net worth of $400 million. In addition to an impressive acting career, the actress is a successful entrepreneur, producer, and published author. She co-founded Hello Sunshine, a media and production company, which she sold to another media company in 2021 for a whopping $900 million. In addition, she started her own clothing line, Draper James, which has stores in Tennessee, Texas, Georgia, and Kentucky.

The actress retained an 18 percent ownership stake in the company and was thought to have collected $120 million after taxes from the sale of her pre-existing shares. She expanded her media empire with the creation of Reese's Book Club. Reese has also earned millions from her film and TV career and has been consistently ranked as one of the world's highest-paid actresses. She reportedly commands a salary of $1.2 million per episode on the AppleTV+ series The Morning Show while she was also paid $15 million for her work on the Legally Blonde sequel Red, White & Blonde.

Witherspoon and Toth, 52, had announced their engagement in December 2010, before tying the knot in March 2011. The couple shares a 10-year-old son Tennessee James. Witherspoon was previously married to actor Ryan Phillippe, with whom she has two children — daughter Ava, 23, and son Deacon, 19.
