Real Housewives of New York star Sonja Morgan has just announced that the legal nightmare of her bankruptcy has finally coming to an end.
She has finally paid off the judgement against her plus a couple of million in additional legal fees.
The judgement was the result of a movie project that never happened. Sonja’s production company reportedly struck a deal with Hannibal Pictures to produce a movie starring John Travolta called Fash Flash Bang Time . Sonja claims that Travolta had too many demands and that she could not meet them, which lead to Hannibal pictures filing the $7 million lawsuit, which they ultimately won.
The former wife of John Adams Morgan , the great-grandson of J.P Morgan sat down with E! News and explained how it feels to have this chapter of her life behind her.
“Its over now. Its come to an end. The $9 million-plus is all there. It was $7 million judgment but with the administration fees, it was about another $2 million,” Morgan told E! , and adds that she’s “out of Chapter 11” (This chapter of the Bankruptcy Code usually proposes a plan of reorganization to keep its business alive and pay creditors over time).
“It feels great. I did a great job. I paid what I had to pay and it wasn’t easy, but at the same time it was an experience,” Sonja continues. “It’s nice to be free of everyone looking at my money. I finally have my financial privacy back.”
Sonja’s financial problems have been a point of contention on the Real Housewives of New York , with some of her cast mates saying she was delusional about the amount that she actually owed and how she was going to pay it off.
“I’m keeping the townhouse. I let the Colorado house go and I sold the house in France,” the reality star explains, but notes that she’s excited for what’s to come. “I’m looking forward to building up my business of fine jewelry, evening wear, sportswear and swimwear.” Morgan says, “People accused me of not being focused. I’m doing everything I said I wanted to do and I still have more to do. I still want to do home goods and appliances down the road.”
Sonja may have put her lawsuit and bankruptcy behind her, but she still has to convince her costars – which includes Skinnygirl mogul Bethenny Frankel – that she is serious about becoming a respected business woman and lifestyle brand .
