Real Housewives of Dallas couple Mark and Cary Deuber are ready to address nasty rumors about their marriage now that Season 1 is a wrap. Several times throughout the season, they were confronted with what they insist are complete lies about how they got together.
Mark and Cary Deuber recently sat down with ET to tell their side of the story and reveal exactly how their marriage started. While LeeAnne Locken implied more than once on the show that Mark was still married when he became involved with Cary, Mark said that is far from the truth.

Mark is a prominent Dallas plastic surgeon. Cary has worked with him for years as his first assistant nurse. The two met when Mark was a resident in the same hospital where Cary worked early in her career. Cary did pursue Mark back then, but it wasn’t because she wanted to jump into his bed — it was because she wanted to work in his operating room.
“We’ve actually known each other for 15 or 16 years. I was a resident, and she was a young nurse at the hospital … Then, I had been in practice about three or four years, and she came to work for me. The reason she did that is because I was doing a lot of complex types of reconstructive surgery that required an operative assistant.”
Cary Deuber mentioned in an episode of The Real Housewives of Dallas that she basically had to beg Mark to hire her. She said when he refused to hire her she would literally just show up ready to assist with surgeries to try to get her foot in the door. Cary said this went on until he finally agreed to hire her, joking that how he can’t live without her.
Mark Deuber explained to ET that while he has nothing bad to say about his ex-wife, he simply “was not in a good place” during his first marriage. He brought up the fact that he was overweight and drank too much. Cary also brought up his former weight issues during an episode, saying that she was not attracted to him at that time.
Mark eventually began taking better care of himself and losing weight, however, he stated that he remained “checked out” as far as his marriage was concerned.
“I don’t want to trash my first marriage or my ex-wife, but suffice it to say, I was not in a good place for a long time in my marriage. I think I gained a lot of weight, I drank a lot. I think I was just not taking care of myself at all… I started taking care of myself, and I started losing weight, and I was kind of checked out on my marriage.”
Mark and Cary Deuber addressed a hateful comment made by LeeAnne’s friend, Heidi Dillon, who is very well-connected in the Dallas charity world.
“Most of the women in Dallas got their rich husbands because, at one point, they were on their knees under his desk, right? That’s what I know of Cary,” Heidi said, during an episode.
During that same show, LeeAnne Locken claimed that Heidi is friends with Mark Deuber’s ex-wife. She suggested that Cary Deuber will never be accepted by many, including Heidi, “because of how she and Mark got together.”

Mark Deuber revealed during their interview that his ex-wife doesn’t even know Heidi Dillon and that Heidi has said she doesn’t know his ex. Cary chimed in, saying that it was all LeeAnne’s doing. She brushed it off as part of the drama that goes along with being on a reality TV show like The Real Housewives of Dallas .
“It was LeeAnne setting her up. I guess people can say what they want. They can make up their own false truths, which I guess you kind of have to deal with when you’re dealing with ‘reality.’”
The Deubers say while they did develop a friendship through work and eventually ended up together, they did not ever “sneak around and have an affair.”
Mark added that if things really happened the way the rumor mill reported that they did, his kids “would hate” Cary. But, “That’s not the case at all,” he said.
Cary said their kids are the reason the rumors bother her. She thinks of how it affects them and feels “disappointed.”
Despite all the drama, Mark and Cary say if The Real Housewives of Dallas is picked up for a second season, they would come back. They feel everything they’ve been through on the show has brought them even closer together.
Watch Mark and Carry Dueber confront LeeAnne Locken face-to-face about the marriage rumors on The Real Housewives of Dallas reunion , which airs Sunday night on Bravo at 9 p.m. ET.
