When Rachel McAdams was confronted with rumors that she had been romantically linked to Taylor Kitsch, Rachel laughed at the speed with which the internet spreads such conjecture as fact. McAdams confessed that she has never been comfortable discussing her dating life with the media and has found the addition of internet gossip mongering has only added to the situation being that much more “weird.”
“It’s funny the things the Internet likes to proclaim,” McAdams said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight .
Rachel coyly evaded the question, as she commented that romance seems to always be implied anytime a photograph captures a man and a woman sharing an evening together, particularly if one or both of the individuals are celebrities. McAdams may have been referring to an event back in June, when she and Taylor were again spotted together at Osteria Mozza in West Hollywood, where the couple shared a dinner.
“[It’s the] weird, weird, bizarre, surreal side of it but I guess you just have to laugh at it at a certain point,” Rachel said, still dancing around the question.
Pressed for an answer, McAdams commented that Kitsch had been a good friend for many, many years, before responding to reports that the two had “definitely” been confirmed to be an item.
“I’m like, ‘Who are these people?’” the True Detective actress said. “How did they confirm that? I find it really confusing, but yeah, it’s an odd little thing.”
Establishing that was as much confirmation as Rachel would give on the topic of her relationship, the actress eased into a much more relaxed demeanor, as she discussed her recent True Detective role and, ironically enough, filming a scene that had unnerved Rachel enough to cause her to vomit on set.
The episode in question was the fourth in True Detective ‘s current season in which the final scene concluded with a nine-minute gunfight involving McAdams and co-stars.
“That one took about five days,” True Detective’ s McAdams said. “That was pretty intense. I actually puked during that scene. When I was running and reloading my gun—it actually wound up being about 200 yards, it was like two football fields—and I was just going all out and we did it a couple of times.”
The True Detective scene and the countless takes that were required to complete it involved some intense running and repetitive crouching, but Rachel says that the physical demands probably had little to do with the nauseous feeling that came over her on the set that day.
“It was my own fault. I had been drinking that Emergen-C and going hard to just try to keep my energy up,” the True Detective star said . “Not a good combination, the running and that. But I kind of felt badass.”
The nausea seemed to work to Rachel’s advantage with McAdams delivering an impressively realistic performance.
True Detective returns with “Other Lives” on July 19 on HBO.
