The first trailer for R.I.P.D. has arrived online.
The supernatural action-comedy from director Robert Schwentke finds Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges battling a slew of bizarre creatures in an effort to keep humanity alive and well. The movie is scheduled for release later this year.
Judging from the first trailer for R.I.P.D. , the film isn’t too far removed from the Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones comedy Men in Black . Instead of battling aliens, Reynolds and Bridges are fighting monsters.
The setup is very similar: a young cop (Reynolds) is recruited into a special organization dedicated to ridding the world of bad guys. The new recruit joins forces with a grizzled and grumpy partner (Bridges) in order to learn the ropes.
This is how Universal describes the movie:
“Veteran sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Bridges) has spent his career with the legendary police force known as R.I.P.D. tracking monstrous spirits who are cleverly disguised as ordinary people. His mission? To arrest and bring to justice a special brand of criminals trying to escape final judgment by hiding among the unsuspecting on Earth.
“Once the wise-cracking Roy is assigned former rising-star detective Nick Walker (Reynolds) as his junior officer, the new partners have to turn grudging respect into top-notch teamwork. When they uncover a plot that could end life as we know it, two of R.I.P.D.’s finest must miraculously restore the cosmic balance … or watch the tunnel to the afterlife begin sending angry souls the very wrong way.”
Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds will be joined by Kevin Bacon , Mary-Louise Parker, Stephanie Szostak, Robert Knepper, James Hong, Marisa Miller, Mike O’Malley, and Devin Ratray in the upcoming comedy.
Writers Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi tackled scripting duties on the picture. The movie is based on the comic book series by Peter M. Lenkov.
Robert Schwentke’s R.I.P.D. is scheduled to hit theaters on July 19, which is right in the middle of the extremely busy summer movie season. Are you looking forward to seeing Reynolds and Bridges fight monsters together on the big screen?
