The PS4 vs Xbox One battle just heated up now that the Xbox One sales numbers are out there, with it seeming likely the PlayStation 4 is the winner.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , both the Xbox One and PS4 sales numbers broke one million units on the launch day.
Tony Bartel, GameStop’s president, seems to be indicating that the Xbox One vs PS4 battle is over before it even began:
“[O]ur sell-through since [the PS4] launch was 80% higher than the total amount of PS3s that we sold in our 2006 fiscal year. Let me repeat that. Our sell-through since launch was 80% higher than the total amount of PS3s that we sold in our 2006 fiscal year.”
What does that even mean? We can say for certain that GameStop sold a lot of PlayStation 4 units, but that’s just one retailer (albeit a big one in the gaming world). But to put those PS4 sales numbers in perspective, the total PS3 sales numbers for 2006 was 1.68 million and Sony was suffering from a difficult launch at the time. We also don’t know what percentage of overall console sales GameStop amounts to, although they did say due to limited PS4 availability that 2.3 million gamers are still waiting on their PlayStation 4.
But what did GameStop say about Xbox One sales numbers?
“[T]he value of our reservations and additional allocation is 15% higher than the amount of Xbox 360s that we sold during our entire 2005 fiscal year. So we are poised for a powerful launch.”
The Xbox 360 sold 1.5 million units in 2005. So what can we make of those numbers? Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 launched in November but in different years, although they repeated history because the PS3 launched earlier in the month. So that factor could account for the extra 0.18 million in sales.
Without having any solid numbers to work with it’s difficult to say for certain, but it seems the PS4 vs Xbox One battle is being won by Sony… at least at GameStop. Still, Microsoft isn’t that far behind and they’re certainly not suffering like Nintendo . For example, reports claim the Xbox One is “just a few thousand units short of beating the Wii U’s total UK sales accrued since its release a year ago this week.”
Despite the financial success, PS4 glitches became infamous instantly , with some people spreading rumors that unpaid Foxconn interns sabotaged the PlayStation 4 assembly line . And then a Xbox One error with the day one update bricked many consoles . The only good news for those unlucky games is that the Blue Light Of Death could be repaired at home in some cases.
Who do you think is winning the Xbox One vs PS4 sales numbers battle?
