PS4 sales vs Xbox One sales numbers so far show Sony winning the console battle, exceeding expectations by almost 50 percent. But while Microsoft has been silent on the Xbox One sales numbers since January, Sony is trumpeting the fact that they’ve sold more than seven million units as of April. So who is the actual winner?
In a related report by The Inquisitr , the Xbox One VS PlayStation 4 battle was settled by Sheldon Cooper of Big Bang Theory , who chose… (read the article to find out!)
Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony, took a victory lap by releasing this statement:
“The response from the global gaming community for PS4 has been overwhelming and we are truly humbled that gamers are selecting PS4 as their next generation console of choice. The PS4 journey has just begun, and although we are still facing difficulties keeping up with the strong demand worldwide, we remain steadfast in our commitment to meet the needs of our customers, and surpassing the wildest expectations of gamers by delivering new user experiences that inspire and engage. We look forward to unveiling many of these experiences to our fans in the coming months.”
Now, both Sony and Microsoft were shooting for selling around five million units by the end of March of 2014. So seven million units is quite a big deal. Microsoft has not released any official Xbox Sales numbers in several months, although we can estimate they’re beyond at least five million at this point since they were at 3.9 million back in January. Titanfall sales numbers were expected to give a boost in Xbox One sales, and the console battle was almost neck and neck in the United States according to the NPD, so it’s possible Microsoft has moved out over six million. Unfortunately, Electronic Arts has been quiet on Titanfall sales numbers so we can’t even make a guesstimate for Xbox One sales numbers based upon them, although at one point they did make mention of hardware sales “doubling” last month.
[UPDATE] The NPD numbers have been released and Microsoft says they’ve only sold over five million units. The NPD also says that Titanfall was the best-selling software followed by Infamous: Second Son .
Business analysts also always seem to provide insights into the Xbox One vs PS4 battle that are “interesting,” to say the least. For example, one analyst claimed the PlayStation 4 might lose because of Sony’s overall failing business . And that’s no lie. Sony is predicted to lose $1 billion in 2014 while Microsoft has $80 billion in cash reserves.
Now Jeremy Rosenberg , head of digital at Allison+Partners, has made a statement about the Xbox One vs PS4 battle that may have fanboys shaking their heads in amazement:
“They also had the challenge with [Xbox] Kinect being front and center, and I think in this new kind of post-Snowden era, some people are a little bit hesitant to put a camera right in front of the television.”
Like many analysts, Rosenberg believes it’s the $100 price difference that is determining the outcome:
“Price drops are an inevitable part of the console gaming enterprise. They will drop their price eventually…. But I think that $100 definitely is causing some people to go with the PS4.”
What do you think about this hypothesis for explaining the PS4 sales vs Xbox One sales numbers?
