President Obama called Vice President Joe Biden shortly after the vice presidential debate Thursday night, and also spoke with reporters, saying that he “could not be prouder” of his running mate’s performance.
Obama spoke with reporters after Air Force One landed near Washington DC on Thursday evening, reports CNN . He stated:
“I’m going to make a special point of saying I thought Joe Biden was terrific. I could not be prouder of him. I thought he made a very strong case. And you know I really think that his passion for making sure that the economy grows for the middle class came through so I’m really proud of him.”
It is very unusual for the president to approach reporters like he did on Thursday night right after leaving the plane. Along with calling Biden and speaking with reporters, the President also tweeted on his official Twitter account after the debate, writing:
“Tonight proved once again that you won’t find a better and more tireless advocate for the middle class than @JoeBiden. -bo #TeamJoe.”
According to The Washington Examiner , President Obama was not the only one to congratulate Vice President Joe Biden or celebrate what the Democratic party is calling a decisive debate win. They took to Twitter, writing:
Every channel declaring a Biden victory! Biden def delivered the facts tonight and held Ryan accountable for the lies! #TeamJoe
