Match Preview
West Brom will welcome a struggling Swansea City on Wednesday in the Premier League as the Baggies look to move on from the defeat against Chelsea.
Prior to the defeat against Antonio Conte’s Chelsea, West Brom had not lost any of their last four matches, winning three of them. The unbeaten four-match streak, which earned them ten points, propelled them to the first half of the Premier League table.
In the game against Chelsea as well, West Brom was resilient throughout the match, only to concede a goal due to the brilliance of Diego Costa.
But manager Tony Pulis didn’t agree with this notion and blamed Gareth McAuley for the defeat, as reported by Express .
“It’s disappointing because Gareth [McAuley] has got to deal with it,” Pulis said.
“He’s made a mistake and we move on.
“We don’t really want to criticise anyone.
“Our structure and organisation was very good.
“One mistake, one chance and the fella puts it away – that’s the difference in quality that separates the teams at the top.”
West Brom is currently placed in the eighth position in the table with 20 points credited to them.
On the other hand, Swansea City prepared for this clash very well by thrashing Sunderland three goals to nil. Gyfli Sigurdhsson opened the scoring for the Swans before Fernando Llorente’s brace in the second half.
Llorente, who has scored four goals in last three games, was singled out for praise by Swansea City captain Leon Britton. The skipper believes that the Spaniard can save Swansea from relegation this season, as per BBC Sport .
“We’ve always been lucky at Swansea having strikers who score 15-plus goals and that is how to stay in the league. Hopefully Fernando can be that man.”
Despite the comprehensive win against Sunderland, Swansea manager Bob Bradley said that his side has plenty of work to do if they are to avoid a drop this season.
“This is a step but we have to build upon it, there’s still plenty of work to do.
“It’s a nice bonus to be out of the bottom three, but the work is still there and we can’t get ahead of ourselves.”
