The Powerball Lottery jackpot now stands at a massive $400 million, as Saturday night’s draw failed to see anyone match the six winning numbers.
Saturday’s jackpot was already pretty big at a cool $317 million. There were a lot people in a lot of states who bought their ticket in the hope of striking it big.
The Inquisitr reported on September 12 about the $317 million Powerball jackpot. The report pointed out the reasons why the lottery has bigger jackpots, which are also more frequent:
Lottery spokeswoman, Mary Neubauer, spoke to the Associated Press about the new system: “It usually took a handful of months, if not several months, for a jackpot to reach this large amount. Now it’s achieving that within a handful of weeks. I think the redesign is achieving exactly what we had wanted it to achieve, which is the bigger, faster-growing jackpot.”
The latest $400 million jackpot will see a take home cash prize of an estimated $223.6 million. The Powerball jackpot reached its peak in May when a whopping $590 million was up for grabs.
The next draw is this coming Wednesday, and lottery officials are in no doubt that a record number of people will be hedging their bets and buying more lottery tickets than ever.
The fact that the chances of winning the Powerball jackpot are around one in 175 million is not a deterrent for most people, eager to change their lives with a lottery win
The winning numbers in Saturday night’s draw were: 1, 17, 25, 37 and 44, with a Powerball of 20 .
