Have you starting thinking about Halloween costumes yet?
In case you haven’t noticed, pumpkin-flavored products have started popping up everywhere. This is a sure sign that it’s time to start getting ready for Halloween. When prepping for the fun howl-iday, it’s important to take note of which Halloween costumes will be flying off of store shelves. These will undoubtedly be the costumes that your kids will want most, and you don’t want to spend the entire week before Halloween trying to scare up a princess tiara or a superhero mask.
According to CNN , Spirit Halloween has already released a list of some of the most popular Halloween costumes for 2014. Unsurprisingly, characters from Frozen are going to be extremely popular. This is the first Halloween since the Disney movie hit theaters last November, and Frozen fever still hasn’t died down. If your kids are fans of the TV series Once Upon a Time , there’s an even bigger chance that they’ll want to dress up like characters from the animated movie for Halloween. The ABC series will introduce live-action versions of Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff when it returns later this month.
It seems as though the popularity of Once Upon a Time might also have a magical effect on the sales of other fairy tale-inspired Halloween costumes — Spirit reports that classic Disney characters like Snow White will also be popular this year. Other Disney princesses featured on the TV series include Belle from Beauty and the Beast , Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty , and Ariel from The Little Mermaid . However, most of the TV characters dress slightly different than their animated Disney movie counterparts.
Spirit didn’t mention dark fairy Maleficent, but the Angelina Jolie movie about the Sleeping Beauty villain was another recent Disney blockbuster. A Maleficent Halloween costume would be perfect for girls who want to dress like a fairy tale character while still looking a bit sinister and spooky.
Expect to see plenty of The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones characters this year. Halloween costumes based on these TV series will probably be big hits with adults and teens. Spirit didn’t include American Horror Story: Coven costumes on its list, but the FX series was very popular with teen girls. It wouldn’t be too hard to recreate some of the all-black ensembles that the young witches wear on the show.
As far as boys are concerned, costumes inspired by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and TV series top Spirit’s list. Of course superheroes will also be hot, with Batman and Spiderman being perennial favorites. Guardians of the Galaxy is probably still fresh in many young minds, and there’s already a line of costumes based on the blockbuster. Also expect kids to pick costumes based on characters from Adventure Time and Star Wars .
Halloween pop-up stores have already started opening their doors, so you might want to beat the crowds by getting your Elsa wigs, Rocket Raccoon masks, and The Walking Dead weapons now.
Which Halloween costumes are you and your kids planning on wearing this year?
