The PlayStation Network returned to action early Sunday morning, according to Sony . The online game service appears to largely be back to full functionality, but some users are still reporting problems with some features and games.
Sony admitted to being the subject of a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack yesterday, as I reported for Inquisitr . The attack began Christmas Day before ending after a questionable payoff to the attackers by Mega Privacy founder Kim Dotcom. The combination of the attack and a flood of new PS4 consoles trying to get online kept the PlayStation Network offline though Saturday, however. Service was finally restored early Sunday morning.

“PlayStation Network is back online. As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.
Thanks again for your support and patience. We’ll provide any further updates here.
Update: Sony’s AskPlayStation Twitter account posted the following advice.
PS4 users: If you are still having issues signing in to PSN today, please reboot the console and try again.

Continue Original Story:
I fired up my PS4 to test out the claim, and can confirm that this is mostly true. I was able to access the PlayStation Store and a couple of multiplayer games. However, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare would not let me connect to the Electronic Arts servers. That may be an issue with Electronic Arts though, and not with PSN.
While users on NeoGAF and Reddit are reporting that they are able to get back online, others are still reporting problems either with certain functionality or are unable to access anything.
NeoGAF user Lashley stated that he is unable to “search and add friends” on his PS4.
Meanwhile, there is an entire Reddit thread dedicated to people who still cannot get online via the PlayStation Network.
“I’ve been online for a few hours but my dad and friend who live 20 minutes away still can’t get online, are there others who still aren’t able to get online?” the thread starter asked.
ShadoowtheSecond responded , “Same boat. I’m online and can see my friends, but the store, downloads, online play etc doesn’t work.”
“Still can’t play, I’m in Atlantic Canada,” k_sway added . “PS really dropped the ball on this one, very disappointing that I can’t play on my vacation.”
Update: Other PS4 users in the comments below and on my Facebook page report that they can’t sign in at all.
Those who are still experiencing problems with PlayStation Network should try the following steps to get their PS4 or PS3 back online.
- In your console settings go to Network -> Setup Connection -> Manually -> Wifi or LAN.
- Leave everything on standard until MTU Settings are reached. Change the MTU to 1473.
- Reset the console if it is still not working.
- Change the setting back to the default MTU Setting (1500) once the PSN issues are 100 percent fixed.
